Congressman Davis Weighs Senate Race

Nov 27, 2006 06:02 AM

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Artur Davis is trying to decide if Alabama might in two years do what Tennessee didn't November Seventh.
The Birmingham Democrat is considering a run in 2008 to unseat Republican Senator Jeff Sessions of Mobile.

If he wins, Alabama would become the first Southern state since shortly after the Civil War to elect a black U-S senator.

Davis says he's encouraged by his party's election day victories and a strong Senate bid from fellow black congressman Harold Ford Junior in Tennessee.

1. Pros & cons
I've had a chance to meet Rep. Davis on several occasions, and he came across as a very caring guy, and very knowledgeable on so many issues. He cares greatly about women's and children's issues, which was the environment I met him in. However, I was greatly disappointed by his support of the torture bill.

Overall, I'm very proud to live in a historically blue district in a very red state. We could move to a neighborhood that offers better regulation (we're covered up with "adult" arcades and "saunas" where we live) and better grocery stores, etc. But that would involve moving to a red district.

We try to fight the good fight, every day...

2. This could be possible...........
Though I don't agree with him on some issues, he would be much better than that idiot sessions. And more importantly, I think Alabama might be ready for it. I would absolutely do my part to help him.
