The Dixie Chicks "Shut up and Sing"... Pretty good, and a Freeper reference.
Guess who gets blamed for fanning the flames in the initial censorship campaign against them? FreeRepublic.com. And some of them are given soundbites as they protest at concerts (captain codpiece was nowhere to be seen, unfortunately). I think that one of them had "Bush Rocks" on the back of his shirt. Yes, they've stoned officials for less, so it's a good idea. ;-)

It's fun, but it's not an in-depth examination of freedom of speech and censorship. It details the responses to their anti-Bush statements and how Country radio basically banned them, etc. It details the fear and ludicrous response to it that was so clear after the attacks. Never forget that there was a time when you would suffer a barrage of nonsense for telling the truth, or merely positing the possibility of untruth. The Chicks are patriots and deserve support.

Sorry for posting on this as I'm sure that there are other threads present.

1. it also shows how the Chicks grew stronger in the face of the attacks...
in other words, the attacks completely backfired, making the group bigger, and more political, than they ever would've been, otherwise...

2. And how BushCo unite us against them as we struggle for freedom.

9. "Hurm." And thanks!
As for us struggling for our freedom -- well, the "Decider" is also a "uniter," que no?

3. I loved this movie
and thought it was a great testimonial to free speech.

My favorite part was when Natalie called dubya a dumb fuck. I am still laughing over that line.

5. Not entirely off the subject, but I saw them Friday night here in L.A.
and the best line of the night was when Natalie said "You might be wondering why Marti and Emily don't talk much. It's because they said something really, really bad, so...." Everybody laughed their asses off. Oh, and EVERYBODY in the place knew the words to "I'm not Ready to Make Nice"....it was awesome, although I still hate the Staples Cener for concerts.

4. An excellent movie
I also loved this movie as it showed how these talented young women became, somewhat unwillingly, symbols of real American "free speech".

It took a lot of guts to not only defend their right to their point of view but to maintain their deep trust and affection for one another.

The great documentary filmmaker, Barbara Koppel (no relation to Ted), and Cynthia Peck made one terrific movie that made me proud to be an American. I know, that sounds odd but that's how I felt.

Go see it. You'll be glad you did.

6. I sure bought my first Chicks record
And was the free speech protest at the Bi-Lo Center when their Tour kicked off in 2003 in Greeneville, SC. So, they gained one fan anyway....

7. A very inspiring film. It shows three strong, passionate, talented & beatiful
women handling the pressure with grace & courage. I fell in love with each of them 10 times.

10. Dixie Chicks in Las Vegas
They were great. Their music review in the Las Vegas Review Journal was an A-. This guy hates every concert that he reviews.
