Never guess who's demanding a list of Concealed Carry Weapons permits?
"This is wild. The gun lobby is declaring victory in New York– because they’ve finally forced authorities there to give up the names of gun permit holders.

The state’s biggest gun group has scored a bull’s-eye with a court victory that requires the NYPD to hand over the names and addresses of 45,000 gun permit holders.

The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association says it will use the list to warn gun owners about Mayor Bloomberg’s campaign to limit their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.

“I think that many people don’t know how serious the threats are,” said the group’s president, Thomas King. “The mayor is trying to take handguns away from people.”

Of course the Mayor is trying to do no such thing– these gun lobby guys just want to spit their propaganda out, uninvited, to the mailbox of these permitholders.
Gun Lobby Fights for release of the Same Names it claimed to Protect.

But the irony here is even sweeter than that. These are, you might remember, the exact same names that the gun lobby didn’t want revealed to anyone for privacy concerns. They’ve fought tooth and nail in other states to prevent the release of these names to the public, because they claim it’s a violation of gun owners’ privacy to have these names out in the open.

So let’s review: release of gun permit holders’ names to the public is not OK. But release of gun holders’ names to the gun lobby for direct mail purposes: A-OK in their books. In fact, they claim it’s required by law. Give us a break.

The state Rifle and Pistol Association sought the names of the city gun owners in a Freedom of Information Law request with the Police Department in July 2003.

When the NYPD denied having the material in “digital format,” the organization sued in Manhattan Supreme Court."

“First they said they didn’t have it, which was rather patent baloney,” said Patrick Brophy, the gun group’s general counsel.

Loeser said the city denies FOIL requests that seek information containing personal addresses.

“It’s not government’s function to supply direct-mail information,” he added.

The New York Times should submit this exact same FOIL request, and print the name of every permit-holder in the paper. You want to talk “patent baloney”? It’s that the gun lobby thinks no one can be trusted with these names– excepting, of course, them. While they claim to be fighting for gun owners’ privacy rights, they’re more than happy to sell out those same rights, via lawsuit if possible, when they’re trying to spam their mailboxes."

And these gun lobby people aren't neoCONS?
