Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We are in a fight for our lives, for the right to NOT remain silent about things that matter. For the rights established for us by the Founders in the Constitution. If peace is the goal, and a means by which we arrive at that goal, how do we wage that fight peacefully? How do we wage peace during wartime in the face of (un)elected officials trying to usurp those rights and wage perpetual war?
Again, the Founders provided the means in the living document, the flexible, dynamic framework for governance that is the Constitution. Who are we to spit in their eye?
The System works only if we make it so. All the lame, jaded, cyncial and spoiled proclamations that not-voting is really smart --because only deluded losers still cling to the "illusion" of the system --are the hypocritical bleatings of pampered proles floating in their Matrix tubs of goo. It's time for a new generation to wake up and get a grip-- forget about strategery and "payback" and 2008 and blue dresses-- look at what is happening to your nation and In Your Name RIGHT NOW.
Those closer to the days when people fought and shed blood for the rights and privileges we (still, for now) enjoy take them more sacredly than those who learn only dusty history and tired cliches...... Some remember that Americans were told Reagan wouldn't be impeached because he was "too popular" and Clinton would be impeached because he "lied" (it was shaking his finger at the TV camera that really pissed off Americans).
Nixon!! Ancient history! But those old enough to remember were imprinted forever with the experience of the FUNCTION and the RELEVANCE of the process of investigations and hearings that were broadcast EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. ALL. DAY. EVERY. CHANNEL.
As if it was important or something. As if the process and the power of the Constitution was more important than all our little concerns or big excuses for why it just wasn't a convenient time to impeach a president.
The System works only if we make it so. The Founders provided the means to wage this battle peacefully and procedures to rein in --and if necessary, remove --anyone who would claim to be King of America.
Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal. Martin Luther King, Jr.

8. Maybe we can tell the media that Tom and Katie's baby is hiding in John Conyers's closet. |
|
Or that hidden somewhere in the first ten amendments to the Constitution is OJ's confession.

13. The irony is that they would "cash in" bigtime |
|
From advertising during coverage of the impeachment process.
Not to mention all the self-aggrandizing career boosts just for acting like actual journalists for a while.
Now if they could just remember how.

24. Elisabeth De La Vega on Thom Hartmann show 11-30 |
|
From the CA Dem Conv. Progressive Caucus Impeachment Forum:
Elisabeth De La Vega is a former federal prosecutor with more than 20 years experience. She pointed out Bush appointed 30-40 staff who were on record as wanting to attack Iraq. Before 9-11 their focus was attacking Iraq. On 9-11, their focus was “how to use this to attack Iraq.”
There is an ongoing “conspiracy to defraud the nation to prosecute this war” and an “overwhelming case” for impeachment. Ms. De La Vega called it “RECKLESS DISREGARD FOR THE THE TRUTH AND THAT’S FRAUD.”
She advised that we “have the courage to talk to people that don’t agree with you. Be sincere, not histrionic. People are persuaded by sincerity.” People talking to each other about this in “committees of correspondence” can reach a tipping point, a geometric progression of awareness and action.
