Bush is going to parlay the WOT into destruction of the US
I was reading this latest from Huff and/or NYT:

"WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 — A senior American intelligence official said Monday that the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah had been training members of the Mahdi Army, the Iraqi Shiite militia led by Moktada al-Sadr.

The official said that 1,000 to 2,000 fighters from the Mahdi Army and other Shiite militias had been trained by Hezbollah in Lebanon. A small number of Hezbollah operatives have also visited Iraq to help with training, the official said.

Iran has facilitated the link between Hezbollah and the Shiite militias in Iraq, the official said. Syrian officials have also cooperated, though there is debate about whether it has the blessing of the senior leaders in Syria.

The intelligence official spoke on condition of anonymity under rules set by his agency, and discussed Iran’s role in response to questions from a reporter."

What possible reason could Iran have to help us stabilize Iraq? Iran benefits if the extremists and/or terrorists take over in Iraq. Given our current pressure of Iran to give up nuke development (and the bad blood between our countries as a result), what would we have to give up in order to enlist Iran to help stabilize Iraq?

This Iraq thing has SERIOUS implications for our future. We can't get out, we can't stay, we can't get our friends to stand with us, we can't win. Well, what the heck CAN we do? This thing is going to escalate out of control.

And Iran sits next door and laughs at us... Yeah, Bush is big on national security. :sarcasm: If national security were any more "important" to Bush, the US would already be destroyed.

1. "What possible reason could Iran have " ???
Iran is vast majority of Shi'ia... Iraq's majority = 55% Shi'ia(+/-) ... without looking, I believe Lebanon is also.

Sunnis = Syria, S. Arabia, minority (Saddam's Sunni-Ba'athist) of Iraq..

So there's brotherhood in culture between Iran-Iraq: Probably one of the dark under-reasons, is that there surely were Iraq-Shi'ias in his military at his height of US-supported power:

Saddam was using Shi'ia to kill Shi'ia in Iran war 1980-88...

Iran also 'benefits', as far as the US is concerned, by having the US army at their doorstep: Bush, by sending 160,000 troops to Iraq, has in effect given Iran a 'human shield': the US military = hostages to our leader's aggressions; vulnerable hostages if Bush goes into Teheran...

2. Iran is strategically better off to let the Iraqis fight it out...
and the US get a serious black eye. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, and all that. In this case, they also share cultural and ideological ties. So why would Iran want to interfere in something that is obviously going thier way?

Iran also benefits from putting the hinkie on the War on Terror (redirect from Al Qaeda to Iraq) because it weakens the US, their ideological opposite. It also increases their regional power, and extends Islamic extremism, which they approve of.

In short, going to Iran with our hat in our hand does NOTHING for our strategy in Iraq. Iran has no reason whatsoever to help us, and we'd have to give up the bank to get any movement in that direction from them. We are well and truly screwed.

Thanks, Bush. :sarcasm:

Perhaps we should send the Bush twins over to spread a little dissent and destruction in Iraq... They seem so GOOD at it!
