I bet his most staunch supporters will find a way to see this as acceptable. He has no business drinking if he's "reformed". I do wonder what they are saying about this!

8. That ain't apple juice, cuz...
:o We've been privy to so many pics recently of Bush at this dinner or that dinner with drink firm in hand. Amazing to me that our mealy-mouthed media aren't making just a lil' more of this than they are. Yes, he's supposedly a "reformed" alcoholic, and no, you aren't even supposed to have one drink if that's what you are. Sad, eh? He's back off the wagon.

7. He's not drinking alcohol every time he has a glass in his hand
and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on some of these.

First picture: fizz in the host's glass and no fizz in Stupid's and Laura's glasses. Best guess: white grape juice.

Second pic does look a little incriminating.

Third pic: clear liquid in host's glass, purplish liquid in Stupid's glass, probably red grape juice.

Third pic, red liquid in host's glass, clear liquid in Stupid's glass, either water or white grape juice.

Fourth picture could be cider.

I think he's being kept on a really short leash. The last time he "escaped" was the meeting with Putin before the G-8. There is a beer bottle at Stupid's place at the table and Putin is looking at him with an expression of alarm that everyone who's lived with an alcoholic knows all too well.

His behavior at the G-8 speaks for itself.

14. I grew up in an alcoholic family
and married a nice guy who turned himself into an alcoholic.

It is all about the behavior, the glazed eyes, the stumbling gait. It's not about the color of what's in the glass.

16. Well, you're right about that.
I've seen it happen, too. It's also about the defensiveness I see in Bush's speech when he's confronted about anything. But I agree that the color of what's in the glass may or may not mean it's alcohol. His behavior is what makes me think he's back on the booze.

He probably remembers when he DUI'ed, and is thinking he doesn't have to do shit now that he has handlers to whisk him off to his room if he gets too far gone.

I wonder what Putin is writing about him in his journal and later memoirs.

53. Thanks for the refresher
because I've seen that look on Putin's face on my own, glanced in the mirror.

Alcoholics who have been kept on a short leash get falling down drunk on relatively little alcohol. It's an amazing process that mirrors a junkie in early withdrawal losing the physical discomfort the second he manages to score.

Stupid's face shows pretty clearly what is going on. Putin may be many things, but he's not stupid. That look on his face says he's already regretting trying to get Stupid drunk enough to say things he shouldn't.

(that pointed finger makes me wonder if Stupid pissed on the floor)

63. Fizz can also be ginger ale.
But I've lived with enough alcoholics to know that they often feel they can justify drinking a glass of wine (or 5) with dinner just to be social. I doubt Laura would allow him more than two glasses, though, at any given event where she was by his side. And then only if he didn't have to speak or greet anyone.

66. After almost every toast I've seen he places the glass on the table after the host sips...
it's a polite way us alcoholics have of joining in w/o having to drink.

If he HAD taken a drink in public, even the puppy press couldn't keep itself from a "scandal" story of that magnitude.

I too give him the benefit.
