Florida visitation drops in 3rd quarter

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/business_tourism_aviation/2006/11/florida_visitat.html

Visit Florida, the state's official tourism marketing group, announced Monday that it estimates that 20.7 million people visited Florida during the July through September period. That's 516,00 fewer visitors or 2.4 percent less than the same quarter last year.

Data collected from Florida's 14 largest airports also shows a decrease. Nearly 2 percent fewer people boarded planes in the third quarter of this year compared to 2005.

Orlando International, the state's busiest passenger airport, appears to be an anomaly with reported increases each month in the third quarter over the same month last year.

In addition, hotel occupancy is down 3.9 percent statewide for the first nine months of the year, according to Visit Florida, though the average daily room rate is almost 9 percent higher than last year.

1. Is tourism down in any other state?
Maybe there's a trend.

2. Maybe folks don't have money for travel
because the economy is nowhere as good as they pretend it is. That's definitely the case in my family.

4. I think you're right. Prices/taxes/insurance are skyrocketing and wages are not
keeping up. It seems worse in Florida than else where.

5. Wow it's that much now?
I haven't been to Disney or anywhere around there for about 10 years now. Used to be less than $50 and below $40 for Florida residents.
