Coalition Forces Kill Five Girls in Iraq Clash

Coalition Forces Kill Five Girls in Iraq Clash

By VOA News
28 November 2006

The U.S. military says coalition forces in Iraq killed five girls during a clash with insurgents in Ramadi.

The military says coalition forces fired tank rounds at a home insurgents were using for cover during a gunbattle Tuesday. Troops then searched the house, finding the body of one man and five girls, ranging in age from infant to teenager.

The U.S. military called the deaths a tragic reminder that insurgent activity affects all Iraqis.

Meanwhile, Iraqi lawmakers renewed the country's two-year state of emergency for 30 more days.

Security officials say back-to-back explosions killed four people outside west Baghdad's main Yarmouk hospital. In the northern city of Kirkuk, officials say the provincial governor escaped an assassination attempt by a suicide bomber. At least one bystander was killed.
