opportunity-

Let him with ears, hear.

-----------

ORLANDO, FLA. — The Florida pastor tapped to lead the Christian Coalition of America resigned his position in a dispute about conservative philosophy - more than a month before he was to fully assume his post, he said this week.

The Rev. Joel Hunter, of Northland, A Church Distributed, in Longwood, Fla., said he quit as president-elect of the group founded by evangelist Pat Robertson because he realized he would be unable to broaden the organization's agenda beyond opposing abortion and gay marriage.

He hoped to include issues such as easing poverty and saving the environment.

"These are issues that Jesus would want us to care about," Hunter said.

---------------

"To tell you the truth, I feel like there are literally millions of evangelical Christians that don't have a home right now," Hunter said.

The pastor's latest book, Right Wing, Wrong Bird: Why the Tactics of the Religious Right Won't Fly With Most Conservative Christians, said no political party should have a lock on the evangelical vote.

1. I'm one evangelical Christian that doesn't have a home right now.
I haven't since prior to the 2004 election when I was attending services and a women's Bible study in a Southern Baptist church (guess that probably explains it all).

Good on Rev. Hunter for standing up to the CCA and for his Christian principles. I don't feel quite so alone now, but can't say for sure when I'll return to church. I'm waiting for God to zap Bush with a serious bolt of spiritual lightning. Could be awhile!

2. its a sad day when LISTENING to jesus gets you shoved out of christian
organizations.

Indeed, the nerve to be concerned about the poor and the environment. If he had also mentioned peace on earth he would have been stoned immediately.

:sarcasm:
