Had a conversation at the store with the mother of a soldier in Fallujah. |
|
She said he is always telling her "Don't listen to what the media says, it's much better than they make it out to be." But of course she had to add, "He's telling me that so I won't worry."
She said it's time to bring the troops home, but thought the original invasion was called for (WTF?).
Mentioned she sometimes wished we could make headway by "just blowing them all up," and starting Iraq over again (more WTF?). I reminded her that there are 1 billion Muslims would be pretty upset.
She was also afraid that the Dems in control of Congress could mean everyone would have to turn in their guns. I assured her that wouldn't happen, and in fact the NRA endorsed alot of Dem candidates this year; it was becoming a non-issue, and even Dems like having hunting weapons, rifles, etc.
Anyway, I live in the brainwashed, koolaid-drinking part of south Texas. It's pretty pathetic.

2. "Fallujah" Mom sounds like a typical freeper, dumbass C-SPAN caller. |
|
They're not in touch with reality and don't want to be. :dunce:

5. in fairness, as a parent, I might irrationally hope for the best until the kid |
|
was home. However, I would never think killing anyone would be a solution, though.

12. I sent my best wishes for her son with her. Yeah, I know what you mean, |
|
and I think it is a sign of frustration about the Iraqis not taking over the mess we've created for them.

4. If she considers "blowing them all up" to be any kind of option, she should be turning in her guns. |

6. Each soldier is told to make sure they say "Don't believe the media |
|
Iraq is better than they make it out to be".
It is a mandatory statement and each soldier will say it. Each one, without exception.

10. OT, but that picture is completely horrifying |
|
It's creepier, in a way, than the pictures of the prisoners being terrorized by dogs and stacked in pyramids, etc, because that woman--that American soldier, that girl next door, somebody's beloved daughter, someone I would have bet any sum of money would never be gleeful over another person's death--looks so happy about it. That doesn't seem like a fake smile to me--look at her eyes. Cover the bottom half of the picture and she could be a teenaged girl playing with a puppy. The psychological damage, the warps in her personality, that enable her to be like that are scary even to contemplate.
What war does to people, and what people do in war....

8. I'm so happy that gun issue is dying |
|
We should regulate gun shows better, but otherwise, most people want ACCESS to guns, even if they don't necessarily want one around. The Repukes will figure this out in about 20 years.
