Why do people like Condi?
She was one of the top candidates in a poll on popularity among potential 2008 candidates. What's up with this?

in the men's room at a GOP fundraiser in NYC. How else can the results be explained?

Maybe they like the way she looks straight at the camera and lies like a trooper.

Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 05:51 PM by Redbear
Think she is smart, principled, and nice.

No way she could ever run given the things she has been involved in. In 2008, she will join a think tank or back to academia.

That's what a strategist said when talking about the high popularity numbers of Harold Ford in TN versus the poll numbers a day or two before the election. I don't know.

30. Because like Laura(with her high ratings) she has not ever had
to face the music with an election. Few really pay her much mind. You get away from here and the public has blinders on. I bet half the country doesn't even know who she is. How many people in this country do you think can name the Secretary of State? I would be surprised if 25% can. And never mind asking the same public what she did before the war, daddy. The public answer would be less than 1% that they have any idea. It's like Laura Bush. How the fu%k can she have approval ratings of 70%. WTF has she ever done? NOTHING! The public could care less about her. Condi, also. Sad but true.

She was one of those who screeched - "We've GOT to have a war!!!"

When she speaks, she sounds like she's being goosed from behind, or driving over a washboard or something. Or maybe just a plain ol' Nervous Nellie.

She'd be 199th on my list of 50.

42. A lot of people who don't know much about her just look at her and see
an African American woman of high achievement. Not just African Americans, either, and not just women. People of both sexes, regardless of skin color, point to her as some kind of role model.

They don't trouble themselves to think about anything she's actually DONE, or the consequences thereof.

45. in a weird way -- she is the perfect representation of
the incompetence that has accompanied this admin from day one.

and yes you're right about her -- people aren't thinking about her and her actual achievments.

and again you exemplify an endemic problem with the citizenry who appeciate the visual approximation of their ideal -- and not the real deal.

44. Well, here's what I noticed when I watched the 2000 Republican convention
After Condi gave her speech, two nouveau riche matrons were interviewed and asked their opinion of her speech. "Oh, we just love Condoleezza Rice," they gushed. "She's so well-dressed and articulate."

In other words, she's the opposite of their stereotype of an African-American woman (i.e. slovenly and unable to speak standard English), so she confirms their notion that there's obviously something seriously wrong with what they think of as the average black woman.

Besides, she's a black Republican, and therefore a rare bird.
