Silvestre REYES for Intel Cmte Chair is sombody we can unite behind
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 06:24 PM by UTUSN
O.K., this is a complicated mishmash. My local radio talkshow host is a raging wingnut. He and SOME Rethugs have wanted for years to attract Hispanics into their Rethugism. Yet, deep in our Dem hearts, we KNOW that a core, SILENT principle of Rethugism is racism. So once there was this Tony GARZA who won one, pitiful county judgeship as a Rethug in a Dem area, and suddenly a CAREER was born: Shrub appointed him Secretary of State in Texas (a nothing position), then after the 2000 COUP, Shrub appointed him as ambassador to Mexico, where the dude got to hobnob with rich Mexicans and married the heiress to a fabulous beer company fortune.

Yet, despite the Rethugs supposedly wanting Hispanics, the wingnut radio guy said of Tony's appointment as ambassador, "Do you think he's UP to it?" Actually, I agreed with the condescension, since it is standard operating procedure for Poppy's Rethugs to appoint incompetent, but puppetoids like Clarence THOMAS, Miguel ESTRADA, Alberto GONZALES.

And the wingnut yakker frequently hosts Affirmative Action dropout Ruben NAVARRETTE, a nothing of a bottom tier columnist, who has never met a Rethug he hasn't championed and defended. He twists his noodle to find ways to support Shrub and bashes Dems at every turn. So, he was ALL FOR Alberto GONZALES's nomination BASED ENTIRELY on his being a Hispanic. NAVARRETTE said that there didn't need to be any vetting or senatorial debate, that GONZALES should be shooed in the door JUST BECAUSE he is a Hispanic. That's racism.

And once there was a wacko schoolteacher named Victor MORALES in Texas running for senator as a Dem, driving a pick-up truck on weekends to speaking engagements. This was back when Shrub and his Rethugs had a lock on everything and no Dems could have a chance, so COMPETENT Dems didn't run. About the 2nd or 3rd time MORALES ran, the Dems actually had a bit of a chance, and the Dems were running the mayor of Dallas, Ron KIRK, a Black. NAVARRETTE, always giving Dems "advice," or rather DEMANDING that Dems do this or that, ran a tirade demanding that Dems should be "loyal" and run Victor MORALES. Well, when KIRK won the primary, this Victor MORALES refused to honor the winnner of the primary and continued to run as a Rethug or endorsed the Rethug------sound familiar?

This time I dont't want to hear condescension from the radio wingnut and DO want to hear NAVARRETTE beating the drum for THIS HISPANIC the way he beat the drum for INCOMPETENT PUPPETS Victor MORALES and Beto GONZALES.

The national Dems seem to fly into a MINDLESS TIZZY every time the Rethugs play the Uncle Tom card by naming INCOMPETENT minority members (Clarence, ESTRADA, GONZALES), running around holding their heads in their hands, yelling, "Oh, NOOOO, what are we going to DOOOO???" And Orrin HATCH puts on his best Shirley TEMPLE pout and goes on all of the yak shows saying, "I don't UNDERSTAND how the Dems can oppose a MINORITY member!!!!" Our Dem answer should be VERY simple: "We don't oppose MINORITIES. We oppose WINGNUTS, so it doesn't MATTER that ESTRADA is a minority. It's enough that he is a WINGNUT, puppet or not, just WINGNUT."

But in this case I want Silvestre to be a GO!!! He's a solid character, not a puppet---how's THAT for a slogan??!!1

2. I agree
Can't hurt to help our outnumbered Texas folks, too. Remember, that state used to be hard Dem. It could be again.

4. He's a Texan that courageously voted AGAINST the Iraqi War.
Either Reyes or Holt are AOK with me.

The concept that someone that had the iron will and foresight to vote against the IWR will soon be chairing the Intelligence Committee is no small thing, folks.

This will impact the politics on the Hill for the next two years.
