Republicans appeal to the stupid
Freepers and the like. Stupid people.

Republicans like them because they are easy to control. That's the upside. They can have followers.

They forget the downside though, which is...

Their followers are stupid.

1. Repug leaders dumb too
In this case I'd have to say the followers were certainly
reflecting the leaders. Low cunning and deviousness are not
intelligence! These people(?) are dumb enough to believe their
own bs.

3. I prefer to think of them as "simple"
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 07:10 PM by SoCalDem
These are the folks who do not understand nuance, irony, sarcasm, etc.

they are literalists (or they like to think they are)

These are the folks who will willingly vote to give millionaires MORE money, because they THINK that somewhere, a woman will be twarted in her effort to get an abotion.

Or the ones who are "sure" the next knock at their door, is Teddy kennedy, come to collect all their guns.

or the ones who think that if they "work real hard", they will be rich "someday"...(even though they have shitty jobs..3 or 4 of 'em)

Or the ones who believe the parts in the bible that seem to bolster THEIR issues, but totally ignore the parts about feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, comforting the sick, etc.
and about rendering unto Caesar (taxes y'all)

Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 07:23 PM by tabasco
You have had different experiences. The smartest people I know admit their utter ignorance. The stupid people I know think thwey know everything (that is why they stopped learning).

the "simple" people I have met think in black & white.. either/or.. there is a set pattern for everything, and they are convinced theirs is the ONLY way..even when they are proven wrong, time and again..

18. They remind me of a doll where you pull it's string...
Pre-programmed with only 1 or 2 responses. Brainwashed, in their case.

Repuke co-worker of mine favorite line "Better we fight them over there than over here"

Every fucking time it's what he resorts to when he can't defend his repuke/chimp's actions or how badly the wars are going.

Typical of the conversations we have had:
Chimp's buddies making all the war $$ while our troops have their families send them upgraded armor..or when the injured troops had to buy their OWN meals at Walter Reed
"Uh, better to fight them over there..blah, blah

85% of the kids in Afghanistan STILL can't attend school
"Um, better to fight them over there..blah, blah

Women's right being no better in Saudi Arabia than they are in Iraq or Afghanistan

"Uh, better to fight them..."

I think he's had a triple helping of the Kool-aid!

20. they saw the downside after first Gulf War. Papa Bush decided he needed to leave Saddam in place
but the righties so bought into the "Saddam is Hitler" crap, that they actually abandoned Bush to hold onto the propaganda.

22. It Has Been A Willful Strategy
They have intentionally targeted the least informed and educated, and targeted issues that touch the darker angels of our nature to acquire the power they obtained. It's really quite sickening.

23. That's absolutely true, and to my point as well
In so doing, they have gained power in the short run, which is what they wanted. Being short-sided, they overlooked the implications, namely: that a stupid populace is undesireable for many reasons. If they were (or still are) to continue on the path they chose, they would continue to have power, but it would be power over stupid people, and society would suffer. They might control society, but it would be a backwater society without all the nice shiny objects they desire - control over cutting-edge technology, advances in medicine, developments in electronic gizmos, etc. just to name a few. All the things that we have learned in the last 50 years to think of as truly 'American'.

I guess what I'm saying is, what's the point in ruling if you rule idiots?
