WEBB: "Wanted To Slug Commander-In-Chief" Over Bush's Rude Statement About His Son
Son also rises in testy Webb-Bush exchange
By Emily Heil

...........................

At a private reception held at the White House with newly elected lawmakers shortly after the election, Bush asked Webb how his son, a Marine lance corporal serving in Iraq, was doing.

Webb responded that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, said a person who heard about the exchange from Webb.

“I didn’t ask you that, I asked how he’s doing,” Bush retorted, according to the source.

Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source, but of course didn’t. It’s safe to say, however, that Bush and Webb won’t be taking any overseas trips together anytime soon.

“Jim did have a conversation with Bush at that dinner,” said Webb’s spokeswoman Kristian Denny Todd. “Basically, he asked about Jim’s son, Jim expressed the fact that he wanted to have him home.” Todd did not want to escalate matters by commenting on Bush’s response, saying, “It was a private conversation.”

74. Egg zack lee ON EVERY LEVEL HE IS LACKING OF SOCIAL SKILLS.
If you don't want an answer don't ask a question.

"How is your son?"

"Well he wants to come home."

"I don't care."

As his girls party it up in South America and cause the Govt. of Argentina to ask
our embassy to ask the girls to get the hell out of the country. Meanwhile Webb's
son is risking his ass in a lost cause looking for WMDs that never were there.

another thread that Webb's comeback to chimp's "How is your son?" should have been "Why don't your daughters enlist so they could go to Iraq and report back to you how he is."

98. Exactly, shrubby probably has the guts to talk like that only because he
has the secret service to make sure he does not have to face any real consequences. He learned to josh and kid around with people who could strike back (lots of repressed anger there) and now he can take it out on people with the secret service to back him up, if anyone so much as calls him a bad name.
I think the word is lily-livered coward.

118. I Could Tell AWOL How The Troops Are Doing
I spoke with my brother via IM this morning for about an hour.

How is HE doing, AWOL?

Let me tell you.

My brother is in the lowest mood I have ever seen him in, and that includes when our Dad died a couple of years ago.

My brother is exhausted. Physically, of course; war takes it out of the joints and bones, even if you aren't wounded, but AWOL wouldn't understand that concept. Mentally, though, he is just worn out.

His sense of humor (I originally typed "Human," Freudian slip?) is greatly diminished. This is the guy who is easily one of the funniest people I have ever known.

My brother is worried...about the war, about his children, about his wife, about money, about his safety.

My brother does not think that AWOL cares about the troops.

My brother does not think that AWOL cares about anything but himself and his own delusions.

My brother referred to his situation as "being in the middle of a civil war," going on to tell me that that is accepted Army parlance these days.

Oh my dear! Please know that our prayers and best wishes are with you and your brother for his safe return.
A lot of our members are families of the deployed and recently returned. (And there's a veteran's forum here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=259 if you're interested.

If we keep the pressure on the newly empowered Democrats, maybe we can help get your brother home sooner.

I suppose Bush thought he was being cunning, by trying to divert Senator-to-be Webb with family talk. He sure gets irritable at the first sign that things aren't going his way! I can only imagine the sorts of things he said to Al Gore back in 2000 (Gore had to remind him, "There's no need to get snippy").

And honor Webb's son and all of our other troops in the process.

I'm posting it over on my little blog and will contact a couple of others, like Hoffmania!

Doesn't AWOL's "retort" sound like something a junior high punk would sneer at his father when his curfew was revoked?

The climate in this country is ever changing. The bad guys controlled the national mood and the public discourse for so long. It's time to let AWOL and his gang of thugs and the fools who are fool enough to enable them to hang themselves with a noose created from their own stupidity, lies, and hatred.

On the heels of the Peace Symbol Wreath Triumph, we need to get this story out. Now.

85. Bush wanted: "Fine, Mr. President"
Bush's question was not genuine, and he therefore didn't want a genuine answer. Like when a telemarketer calls and asks you how you're doing, they don't want to know, it's just a simple formality from someone who doesn't give a rat's ass about you or your family.

Webb's response was doubly offensive to the president because it was an unwelcome intrusion of reality into Bush's fantasy camp presidency where all soldiers and their families praise Bush for their opportunity to spread his blessings of liberty to the simple pagan people of the Middle East and love and lionize him with perfect vigilance.

From Webb's bio.

First in his class of 243 at the Marine Corps Officer's Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, Jim served
with the Fifth Marine Regiment in Vietnam, where as a rifle platoon and company commander in
the infamous An Hoa Basin west of Danang he was awarded the Navy Cross, the Silver Star Medal,
two Bronze Star Medals, and two Purple Hearts. He later served as a platoon commander and as an
instructor in tactics and weapons at Marine Corps Officer Candidates School, and then as a member
of the Secretary of the Navy's immediate staff, before leaving the Marine Corps in 1972.

Okay...erm, WTF?

Granted, I don't like the fella (bush), but...he was right.

It's not his fault that Webb took the comment wrong.

Think about it:

At a private reception held at the White House with newly elected lawmakers shortly after the election, Bush asked Webb

****how his son, a Marine lance corporal serving in Iraq, was doing.****

****Webb responded that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, said a person who heard about the exchange from Webb.***

***“I didn’t ask you that, I asked how he’s doing,”**** Bush retorted, according to the source.

Think about this folks, according to this post...Bush asked how he was doing..., the son...NOT the father.

*sighs*

I don't know why i am opting to be the voice of reason, it's apparent that there is no reason here, just hate.

Remember folks, "Hate is baggage, and the sooner you get rid of it, the better off you are. With it, you are doomed to lose." ~Unknown

*shrugs*

Boot me if you want, but....it's my thought on it all.

109. I know where Webb lives.
It's about a five minute walk from where I grew up.
It's close, but maybe not close enough. When I was
little, there actually was an airport for small planes
at Bailey's Crossroads, a 12 minute car ride, but these
days it's all apartment complexes and shopping malls.
I don't think there will be any light plane crashes, as there
are a lot of Republican hotshots who live in the area, too, not
that a little "friendly fire" is beyond Bush's imagination.

“I didn’t ask you that, I asked how he’s doing,” Bush retorted, according to the source.

Shrub can't respond to anything that isn't in his script. He wasn't given an answer that fit his script or what he was prepared to hear and so he freaked out.

Inflexible? Well, don't expect him to use the phrase "civil war" anytime soon. It's not been put into his script.
