Pope Benedict begins four day tour of Turkey

Pope Benedict has begun his first official visit to predominantly Muslim Turkey, a four-day tour he says is aimed at promoting dialogue between cultures and religions.

The pontiff got a warm greeting Tuesday from Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the airport in Ankara.

A short while later, Benedict laid a wreath at the gravesite of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.

In the mausoleum guest book, he referred to Turkey as a meeting point of different religions and cultures.
