Peace in Pagosa
I love this story and how Peace sign wreaths are popping up all around the town of Pagosa Springs! I would LOVE to see this happen across the country...Maybe DUers can lead the way?

I know my home will have a Peace Sign Wreath this year! :woohoo:

Wrapped in wreaths, Pagosa Springs speaks its peace

From townspeople to town hall, from signs in the snow to signs aglow, from Colorado to Wisconsin and around the world, one couple's home display of garland has gotten its message across.

A new lighted wreath in the shape of a peace sign now graces the tower of the old Pagosa Springs town hall, and a band of townspeople marched Tuesday carrying peace signs and stamping a large peace sign in the snow of a town park.

Peace-sign wreaths are also popping up on homes as Pagosa Springs becomes part of a wide-ranging holiday wreath movement that has been sparked by controversy over one displayed on a home in a subdivision five miles south of town.

Lisa Jensen and Bill Trimarco last week were ordered by their subdivision association to remove their wreath or face fines because the display violated covenants banning signs and advertisements.

"Peace - it's such a simple message," Trimarco said. "It's not against the war in Iraq or anything like that."

The Winnebago Peace & Justice Center is again selling Peace Wreaths this holiday season as part of its general fundraising activities. As one of only 2 places in the country that sell this type of wreath, the WPJC is excited to be offering an even better wreath than last year. This years peace sign shaped wreaths are locally made with 100% Fraser fir and measure 30-32" in diameter. At a cost of only $38, Peace Wreaths are available for purchase online (with full shipping capabilities) at www.wpjc.snizville.com, by calling Drew Mueske at 920.292.0386, or by stopping in during open hours. Once wreath orders are placed, production of wreaths takes up to 2 weeks. The WPJC will be accepting orders through Monday December 4th and will have some extra wreaths on hand that are available for purchase.

The Peace Wreath idea began in 2005 with little knowledge of what it would take. The WPJC decided they'd like to have a large Wreath for the side of the building, so they worked with a local crafts-woman and WPJC supporter and eventually it turned into a fundraiser for us. "After making the wreaths ourselves last year, we have much respect for the wreath-making process and we're very happy to have partnered with Fraser Farm," said Jenny Ryan, Co-chair of the Winnebago Peace & Justice Center. Fraser Farm, LLC is a beautiful Fraser-only Christmas Tree farm located just Northwest of Ripon on 37th Ave, off Townline Rd. Fraser Farm offers full-service Christmas Tree and Wreath-making facilities, including Cut-your-own tree options. "We are pleased to be producing wreaths which express one of the wishes of this season and that is Peace. Peace can mean many things to different people...we wish to all that peaceful feeling experienced when surrounded by family, friends and loved ones at this time of year... May it last long, spread far and take away a little turmoil from your world," Dennis Meyer, Co-owner of Fraser Farm.

2. Maybe it would get corporate media coverage if it was a big enough story!

3. Since the early '70s, my sister and I have been making a peace
sign out of cardboard and then we wrap it in tin foil to make it shiny, and that becomes our Christmas tree topper. Let's all do this this year!

4. "The good thing is I think people have hard our message of peace,"
Jensen said. "It's been phenomenal."

But Trimarco said he has been "choked up" by some of the calls and emails from soldiers serving in Iraq, parents of soldiers in Iraq and Vietnam vets who wrote that they survived the war by displaying the sign on the backs of their helmets.

"Peace -- it's such a simple message."

5. We've had a vacation home there for 12 or so years.
It is a wonderful town (be sure to check out the underground candy shop, the fudge rocks). Wolf Creek generally has the most snow in CO. It was a tiny unknown town w/ way cool hot springs until Goldie Hawn and many other Hollywood types started buying up property.

6. Oprah went through there on her road trip this summer...
and it really looked like a cool place to live. Oprah was going on and on about how much she loved the place and I thought "Oh oh, watch out, here comes the influx of people!" :hide:

Also, I think one of my all time favorite musicians, Dan Fogelberg lives near there, doesn't he? :loveya:
