Frist will not seek presidency in 2008
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061129/ap_on_el_pr/frist2008

WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Wednesday he will not run for president in 2008, the most high-profile campaign dropout among Republicans more than a year before the first convention delegates are chosen.

"In the Bible, God tells us for everything there is a season, and for me, for now, this season of being an elected official has come to a close. I do not intend to run for president in 2008," Frist said in a statement — his only planned comment on the decision.

Earlier, Frist had decided not to seek a third term in the Senate. His announcement Wednesday caps a 12-year stint in electoral politics in which he rose from an underdog in his 1994 Senate campaign to the position of majority leader a mere eight years later.

Among the Republicans already exploring a White House bid are Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) of Arizona and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney also is considering pursuing the GOP nomination.

2. That is too bad
I would like to see a large field in 2008 - still so long as there's at least one "true believer" to take on McCain, that will be good.

8. Prediction: No one will challenge McCain for 08 nomination
Through a deal made 2000 for unfailing support for bu$h, McCain is hair to GOP throne.
There will be a few mentions of others to keep the GOP in the news.

9. He doesn't want to have to inherit/deal with Iraq...

...which the next president will probably have to do seeing as how Bush is going to just "stay the course" till the end of his term.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of Repukes deciding NOT to run in 08, instead hoping to bide their time till 2012. They figure the Repukes are in bad shape to hold onto the Presidency in 2008, anyway, and they also hope Iraq will get sorted out resolved one way or the other in time for it not to be much of a factor for a run in 2012.

EDIT TO ADD: McCain is the only one who will run for sure because he's already 65 now and there's no tomorrow for him.
