Are George W. Bush Lovers Certifiable?
A collective "I told you so" will ripple through the world of Bush-bashers once news of Christopher Lohse's study gets out.

Lohse, a social work master's student at Southern Connecticut State University, says he has proven what many progressives have probably suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush.

Lohse says his study is no joke. The thesis draws on a survey of 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election. Lohse's study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a persons psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush.

But before you go thinking all your conservative friends are psychotic, listen to Lohse's explanation.

"Our study shows that psychotic patients prefer an authoritative leader," Lohse says. "If your world is very mixed up, there's something very comforting about someone telling you, "This is how it's going to be."

The study was an advocacy project of sorts, designed to register mentally ill voters and encourage them to go to the polls, Lohse explains. The Bush trend was revealed later on.

12. damn, that is pretty f***ing sad
I've had to put up with bush for over a decade and the idea that even DUers can be fooled into mistaking his frat-boy ignorant bullying as "charisma" is puke-worthy :puke:

8. Good point about being mixed up and wanting someone to tell them how it is
The authoritarian/submissve frame is the only way they can envision things.

Goes along too with the childish mentality. Bush is the big father who is supposed to take care of us, "protect us" so long as we are good hard working little boys and girls.

11. americans are obsessed with certain types of masculine figures.
bush represents america's nutty desire for a fictional guy riding into town in white hat and setting about the bidness of cleaning house.

it's adolescent -- kinda like we are about sex.

13. Maybe Not. His followers are cult members, not repuglicans
The whole thing is a cult, a real cult and the 3% that really and truly still support him (I for one don't believe it's near 30%) are indeed certifiable.

14. Seder talked about this this AM
or it may have been the Young Turks before Sam came on. they talked to the author. Actually it makes perfect sense, and I have suspected it for a long time. You would have to be seriously demented to believe what Limpballs says, and that's the same group.
