Poll question: of the Kennedy brothers who would have been the best president? |
|
Yes, we know JFK was president, though his term was tragically cut short, but who do you think would have been the greatest "President Kennedy"?

1. I go back to Bobby Kennedy, and not since RFK |
|
have I been so inspired by a public figure as I have been inspired by Wes Clark. We didn't have Bobby in the White House, but we have the opportunity to put wes Clark there.

They would all have been immensely better than the fool we have today. It's really hard to choose between "terrific" and "superb".

7. Bobby. He was growing right before our eyes and becoming a really |
|
terrific person and leader.
He had the passion that Jack lacked and he had learned the beginning of wisdom: knowing that one does not know...

a taxi in Boston in the 1980s, and my father asking the driver if he thought Ted should become president? The guy said no, he didn't think so. He pointed out that Ted was a great Senator, aqnd that many of our greatest leaders have been Senators, while some of the worst snakes were presidents. I agree.
It's difficult to say about JFK and RFK. Different men in different times. But one thing I can say, without any chance of error: the world would be a better place if John served from 1960 to '68, and Robert from '68 to '76.

12. I don't think Bobby would have ran if JFK would have lived |
|
Bobby was shy and content to help his big brother. It was only the war and his brothers death and perhaps Johnson as president that convinced him to run. But once he was in the race it was no doubt that he would have won and there would have been no Nixon.

But I think that he was going to run. In fact, Jack being killed may have made it more likely he would wait until 1972, except Lyndon lost his mind. The Kennedy brothers had plans to lead this country in a new and progressive direction, and many people close to them were under the impression they would hold the presidency for 16 years. Their enemies were concerned that Ted would make it 24.

20. Yes, I know he was killed on World War 2. |
|
I was not asking where he was in the real world, I am asking where he was on the poll, since he was the one Joe Sr. was grooming for the White House.

He was getting us out of Vietnam, saved the entire world during the Cuban Missile Crisis (while still standing strong against the USSR), intended to completely eliminate the CIA, pushed for the Civil Rights legislation through Congress and was perhaps most responsible for putting a man on the Moon.
I only wish he had chosen Humphrey, Gore Sr. or Symington or somebody else as his running mate and kept Johnson in the Senate where he could've done the most good as Majority Leader.

17. I can't say I liked any of them. |

Of course, my Democratic heroine - the greatest Democrat ever in my mind - was Eleanor Roosevelt.
She despised the Kennedy's.
