Lou Dobbs: "Thank God the Dems won and can check BushCo's arrogance." |

Did anyone catch that. I just turned CNN on and heard that. Does anyone know what he was referring to?

I just read that in the paper the other day. Are they trying to slip this too under the radar?
Obviously, this past election taught the Shrub NOTHING. It's still my way or the highway, business as usual, for EVERYTHING he wants do do. Is this man INSANE? I sure hope the Dems develop a backbone.

"Insane" is the word that has come to mind repeatedly over the past 6 years |
|
He and his cronies singlehandedly brought back nuclear proliferation and obliterated any credibility our nation ever had as an honest broker when they started nattering about developing "tactical usable nuclear weapons" and "bunker busters."
That was stunning enough, but the examples just go on and on. He lives in a bubble, he can't put together a compound sentence in his native tongue, and when asked a question he will repeat the same two or three phrases over and over in different combinations using a tone of voice that indicates he (a) thinks the questioner has no right to ask, and (b) thinks the questioner is an idiot.
The examples are endless. He is a scary little man and a poor excuse for a human being.

He's one of the last people in the mainstream media willing to challenge the corporate status quo. He stands up for American workers at a time when most others shrug their shoulders and say "It's the global economy. If people who lose their good jobs have to work at Wal-Mart for 1/3 of what they used to make that's just growing pains and the best thing we can do is keep shopping and not think too much about them." The man is as close to a saint for working people as we could possibly have in the media.

to american citisens for quite some time now. I don't hear anyone else sticking to the subject for as long as Lou has.
by your remark, do you think it's quite fine for corporations to not have any allegiance but to their profits and get cheap labour from wherever they can at the best price, pay unfair low taxes compared to the middle class, have more influence on policies than the voters?.
sure sounds so to me.
you want a borderless world? Yes, I do as well, would be grand - for The People. Corps want it for their fancy 'globalization' bastardized ugly orwellian word. Global net for cheap labour and most profits - that's what it is.

Just like as if he'd gotten the talking point right from Rove. Fortunately the generally weak-kneed Democratic "consultant" pushed it back in Lou's smug face.
BTW...anyone want to conjecture why Lou Doobies still calls the People's Republic Of China as "Red China"? Old habits die hard?

While China certainly still has grave human rights issues in some areas, it hasn't been a communist country for years. It's a "socialist market economy," by their definition (basically a heavily regulated and burgeoning capitalist society).

...albeit one that is loved by capitalist/corporate apologists. Change will come but in what form is too early to say. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/country_profiles/1287798.stm" The rate of economic change hasn't been matched by political reform, with the Communist Party - the world's biggest political party - retaining its monopoly on power and maintaining strict control over the people. 26. I am neither a corporate nor a capitalist "apologist." |
|
And China is no longer a communist country. Are their still certain aspects of communism present in its governance? Yes, but that does not make it a communist country. The first major steps away from communism--and they are major--have been the encouragement of free enterprise, local/individual control of land, and the rejection of the cultural revolution's suppression of art and craftsmanship. Do they still have a LONG way to go? Yes, and I said as much in my initial post. But to refer to it reflexively as a communist country is to grossly oversimplify what China is today.
It's a tad more complicated than that, whether you understand that or not.

And I didn't mean to imply you were the apologist... I just think China's cheap labor and lack of human rights is a corporatist's wet dream.
China is ruled by one party, the communist party.

28. Well, like I said, it's rather more complicated than that. |

China's labor isn't as cheap as it used to be--it's no longer a place most companies look to for cheap labor (so they've moved on to prey on other countries). They have made some improvements on human rights, and aren't quite the evil-incarnate we were taught to see them as.
I'm moving there within the year to teach, and have been doing pretty intensive research on the country and its government. For all its flaws, it's a wonderful, exciting place to be right now.

I intend to post as much as I can, but with the requisite discretion. I want to reiterate one more time that I don't see China as a problem-free country, and any comments I make about the government there will have to be very carefully worded. I'm sure the censors won't have a problem with my criticizing the Bush administration, but my comments about China will be....measured.
I'm going over there to experience the culture and travel around the country as much as possible, so although I recognize China's problems, and am sure I'll experience many of them close-up, my goal is not to criticize the country while I'm there. That can wait until I get back.

I used to think I liked the guy, then I realized he's just a dork who thinks he's now a bigshot. Lots of Pontificating, puffery, really thinks he's a BRAIN, when all he is is a talking Head as usual..
Watched him on Mahr show and noticed that he was playing to the crowd, his opinions would turn on a dime, and he is what you might call a "Pleaser" in a family of alcoholics..
So now I think he's an idiot. sorry :)

Dobbs used to have credibility however, arrogant is an accurate term to describe the tone of his broadcasts recently.
If anyone has read the recent profiles on Dobbs it's obvious that CNN is encouraging this kind of behavior in an attempt to catch up to Fox News in the ratings.
