1. In that case, it's time to get Brainwashed
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 08:00 PM by DoYouEverWonder
Brainwashed Lyrics
by George Harrison

Brainwashed in our childhood
Brainwashed by the school
Brainwashed by our teachers
and brainwashed by their rules

Brainwashed by our leaders
By our Kings and Queens
Brainwashed in the open and brainwashed
behind the scenes

God God God
A voice cried in the wilderness
God God God
it was on the longest night
God God God
An eternity of darkness
God God God
Someone turned out the spiritual light

Brainwashed by the Nikkei
Brainwashed by Dow Jones
Brainwashed by the FTSE
Nasdaq and secure loans
Brainwashed us from Brussels
Brainwashing us in Bonn
Brainwashing us in Washington
Westminster in London

God God God
You are the wisdom that we seek
God God God
The lover that we miss
God God God
Your nature is eternity
God God God
You are Existence, Knowledge, Bliss

The soul does not love, it is love itself
It does not exist, It is existence itself
It does not know, It is knowledge itself
"How to Know God" Page 130

They brainwashed my great uncle
Brainwashed my cousin Bob
They even got my grandma when she was
working for the mob
Brainwash you while you're sleeping
While you're in a traffic jam
Brainwash you while you're weeping
While still a baby in your pram
Brainwashed by the Military
Brainwashed under duress
Brainwashed by the media
You're brainwashed by the press
Brainwashed by computer
Brainwashed by mobile phones
Brainwashed by the satellite
Brainwashed to the bone

God God God
Won't you lead us through this mess
God God God
From the places of concrete
God God God
Nothing's worse than ignorance
God God God
I just won't accept defeat

God God God
Must be something I forgot
God God God
Down on Bullshit Avenue
God God God
If we can only stop the rot
God God God
Wish that you'd brainwash us too

3. Thank you for the reminder. I knew this date meant something to me. I kept
thinking all day that it was someones birthday, and I had forgotten, but that wasn't it. Now I know, and I'll play a few songs tonight in honor.

4. By far the most musically talented of the Beatles.
Paul's post-breakup stuff? Except "Baby I'm Amazed," garbage. More interested in making cutesy-pop love songs to his wife than making good music.

John's post-breakup stuff? Except "Imagine," garbage. More interested in making a point than making good music. (don't kill me)

Ringo's post-breakup stuff? Competent bubblegum pop, but really, unimpressive.

George's post-breakup stuff? Solid, through and through, and keeps the Beatles sound. He was the backbone of that band. Lennon/McCartney may be the best songwriting duo in history, but Harrison was the best musician in the group.

7. Hey now, I can't diss Ringo
A certain kids TV show about railways he narrated was a staple of my early years, so I can't complain :)

5. Isn't It a Pity
Isn't it a pity
Now, isn't it a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Some things take so long
But how do I explain
When not too many people
Can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity

Isn't it a pity
Isn't is a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity
Forgetting to give back
Now, isn't it a pity

(6 times, fade the 6th:)
What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity
What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity

6. I was in New York that day...
There was a lot of love for George in Central Park.

Hard to believe it's been that long ago... seems like a year, tops.

I still have all the press clippings and albums. Man, what a time it was.

BTW, if you haven't yet seen The Concert For George, I highly recommend it. It will totally blow you away.

17. A big influence on my life...
He even came with Ravi Shankar and played a concert in Tulsa when I lived there. Tulsa! Nobody ever played there. We always had to drive to Dallas or KC to see anyone really famous. LOL Then on three incredible weekends in the winter of '73/'74 we had Yes (without Partrick Moraz in place of Rick Wakeman) one weekend followed by Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt the next and finally George Harrison the next. George was on tour promoting Living In The Material World.

Ravi Shankar opened of course and I do remember thinking that it was probably the first time the sitar had ever been played onstage in our town for damn sure! Then George took the stage and I was in awe. I'd been a fan of the Beatles since Rubber Soul and never thought I'd ever get to see one, much less George. Because of him I'd read and practiced TM, read about Eastern religions and I learned a lot from his passivism. That night he had a great band, had a great stage presence and put on a hella good show. Just what I'd expected.

Thanks George. Oh and say hello to John if ya see him around.

18. Have you heard the new acoustic version
of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the "Love" CD? It's quite nice and includes some lyrics that aren't on the White Album version:

"I look from the wings at the play you are staging
While my guitar gently weeps
As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging
Still my guitar gently weeps"

19. It seems like
the acoustic version he recorded -- I think on his birthday -- which had that verse, can be found on the 3rd Anthology set. George alone with an acoustic guitar is outstanding.

I have the Tribute to George on DVD and we pop it in a lot.

What a sweet man. Thanks for this thread.

I love the George Martin stringed version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps on the Love CD. New verse, too.

22. The "new verse"
is on the Beatles Anthology 3, released a decade ago. It contains the acoustic version recorded at George's home {one of three from The Beatles (The White Album)on Anth3 recorded there}.

23. I have the Anthology 3
don't remember the verse, but I'm an old goat. I do remember the rough and early takes of John's Strawberry Fields though.

I saw the Beatles when I was eleven. I told my dad as he was dying (I told him a lot of things) that I thought he was so great to have let me go see them at such a young age. He laughed and told me that he'd never seen anything like Beatlemania when it hit here in the U.S. and got a great joy in my joy.

24. John's versions
on Anth3 give an idea how the song might have been if not for Paul.

Somewhere, there is a slow, acoustic version of "Help." John spoke about re-releasing the song, with it done as he intended. I'd love to have a copy of that.

Donovan played it for the crowd in concert. It's on a CD.

27. Nope.
I haven't. Lately I have been listening to the re-release of the "All Things Must Pass" LPs/CDs. I really like the versions he re-recorded of some of the gems from that collection. I think it is one of the best examples of work from that era that stands stands up very well.

21. Art of Dying
There'll come a time when most of us return here
Brought back by out desire to be
A perfect entity
Living through a million years of crying
Until you've realized the art of dying
Do you believe me?

- George Harrison, 1970

30. Isn't it, though? I must be old.
I remember hearing -- we were in college then. It seemed so ... wrong. Strange. Why in the world would that happen?

I guess we knew George was leaving us here. But through his music, you also knew he was more than ready, and understood so much better than most what it's all about.

31. All Things Must Pass
I'll let George's words do the talking

Sunrise doesn't last all morning
A cloudburst doesn't last all day
Seems my love is up and has left you with no warning
It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away

Sunset doesn't last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this, my love is up and must be leaving
It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So, I must be on my way
And face another day

Now the darkness only stays the night-time
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away

32. That's The Way it Goes

There's a man talking on the radio
What he's saying I don't really know
Seems he's lost some stocks and shares
Stops and stares
He's afraid I know
That's the way it goes

There's a man talking of the promised land
He'll aquire it with some Krugerrand
Subdivide and deal it out
Feel his clout
He can stoop so low
And that's the way it goes

There's an actor who hopes to fit the bill
Sees a shining city on a hill
Step up close and see he's blind
Wined and dined
All he has is pose
And that's the way it goes

There's a fire that burns away the lies
Manifesting in the spiritual eye
Though you won't understand the way I feel
You conceal, all there is to know
That's the way it goes

Miss you George!

in my car with my babies at the time, a warmish February day and the DJ just played it because it was sunny for a change.

I cry when I hear it now.

Doesn't seem like it... time flies. I remember that day well. I owned two Beatles shirts at the time, and by coincidence I'd put one on that morning.
