Serious Q: If Webb had actually punched the Chimp, what would happen?
I could envision a misdemeanor charge of assault & battery but does anybody here think it would really be anything more than that? I think I'm glad he didn't because I would be dead from terminal laughter.

1. I was wondering about that too
It would be a lot worse than what happened to McKinney, that's for sure.

Anything from being shot dead on the spot, to treason charges, to jail time--- But more importantly, who would have replaced him? I think that's what Bush was trying to do--get Webb to lose his temper, and it didn't work. Webb showed superhuman restraint, IMO.

3. Really? You think it would be taken to that level...with a Senator-elect?
:scared:

17. They were willing to put a Rep on trial for an alleged assault
against a Capitol policeman...of course they'd be willing to take it down to that level.

19. Well, of course it would.
Being a Senator-elect does not place you above the law.

18. I don't think bush
was *trying* to get Webb to lose his temper - I think he's just so f'ing arrogant - that he was trying to "play the good ol' boy" - and didn't like that the answer was an implied criticism of HIM.

2. The Secret Service would have tasered his ass,
and he'd be in a whole big pile of trouble. You're not allowed to punch a President, no matter how much he might deserve it.

9. well, he wouldn't be the first person to knock out George W. Bush
Bush himself did that (during the pretzel incident). Actually I think it's quite possible that Webb might not even have had to make contact -- Bush might have fainted from sheer terror.

10. I think they may have shot him dead on the spot, or disappeared him
for rendition to some third world country to get him to spill everything he knows or doesn't know about the liberal agenda conspiracy.

11. Prison, of course
it would be blown up to "an attempt on the President's life!" and Webb would be replaced by the governor of Virginia.

Thank goodness for his restraint.

14. He would probably have been tasered.
Possibly shot. Either way, an attempt on the President's life is usually not taken very lightly.

21. Resounding cheers across America would have gone up and created
...such a roar of support for Webb and all of the parents and relatives and spouses of our men and women over in Iraq that I believe the Bush administration would have been rattled right out of office! Dubya is such an idiot. :applause: :hide: :yoiks:

22. He would be declared an enemy combatant and locked up in a
secret prison somewhere in Europe, never to be seen again. No habeas, no trial, no attorney. End of story.
