What If, Just What If, Bush isn't a Complete Idiot?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-seery/what-if-just-what-if-bu_b_35183.html

<snip>
Suppose, for a minute, that Bush and his war advisers aren't simply bullheaded boobs, feckless fanatics, or delusional dunderheads (the proposition strains credulity, I realize, but bear with me). Let's go down this path, as a thought experiment.

<snip>
Maybe he isn't oblivious to all the corruption, double-dealing, profiteering, ruthlessness, and murderousness now showcased on a daily basis throughout Iraq.

Maybe it has truly sunk into his Alfred E. Neuman "What, Me Worry?" persona that all of his previously stated goals for post-Saddam Iraq are now in shambles.

Consider, for a moment, that he might be pursuing an agenda beyond mere ego and arrogance and idiocy.

....more

1. He can do all that and STILL be an idiot.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

10. The whole purpose of operation "Desert Bunny pants",
was to get the Hussein family and subsidize his corporate cronies to the tune of hundreds of billions of US tax dollars. He's done both. Americans are the idiots for tolerating him and his ilk to sit in the White House for a day.

11. I never considered him to be a complete idiot
I took very seriously the statement from Ann Richards that the worst mistake you can make is to underestimate Junior Bush. He may be a sociopath and self-centered fuckwad, but he's not stupid or incapable of achieving his goals. The problem is he sells the less informed on a concept that he doesn't believe in and aren't aware they are being played for suckers. I view him as an idiot savant like Rove, they both have a special skill, but there is no intellect or morality guiding that skill. That's a recipe for disaster.

12. He's all appetite and no empathy. People are a means.
His own gratification is the end. He has no sense of self other than through his transiently sated and ever increasing appetites. He's a pathological narcissist. Whatever intellectual capacity he possesses is dedicated to sowing and harvesting feed supplies.

18. That their goals were the oil fields and
permanent bases were obvious from the beginning. The whole range of other changing reasons never made sense, you can't bring democracy by the end of a gun, by occupation. But he's still an idiot for thinking he could pull this off.
