Vets Ticketed For Parking At War Memorial

Serene Branson
Reporting

(CBS13) SACRAMENTO For the past five years Susan Sheldrake has commemorated Veterans' Day at the capitols' Vietnam Memorial. She honors her husband and countless friends who fought the war.

But for Susan and several vets their solemn day was tripped up by tickets.

And a federal holiday! When we contacted the city they first told us the city observed the holiday the Friday before.

snip...
The city told us meter holidays are outlined on their website but when we checked, Veterans' Day wasn't even on there. The next day the city said they don't recognize Veteran's Day as a meter holiday. Parking manager Ramon Gibbons said folks should check the six recognized days online.

Serene: Some people don't have the internet, you know that right?

Gibbons: Yes.

1. Just so they can have a few more bucks in the coffers to...
piss away. My god, not recognizing Veteran's Day as a meter holiday, after all the Veterans only protect and serve their country but they don't recognize that holiday. Is everyone in government brain dead, I'm beginning to think so.

2. If I park at a meter, I put money in it.
If I think it might be a holiday but don't have access to the internet to check, I put money in it.

But that's just me.
