Please critique my LTTE on George Will calling Jim Webb a boor
This is in response to Will's op-ed today that labeled Senator-elect Jim Webb a boor ( see my thread here for the original article & link - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2832050&mesg_id=2832050
)

Besides the irony of George Will calling Senator-elect Jim Webb a boor, Mr. Will also commits the lie of omission in his recent piece in the Courant.

Will conveniently excludes part of George Bush’s snippy response to Webb’s answer. According to the Washington Post, when Webb responded with, “I’d like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President,” Bush responded with, “That’s not what I asked you,” before asking his question again. Will also omits that Webb’s original response ended with, “Mr. President,” to further make Webb look disrespectful.

Funny how those omissions change the whole dynamic of the exchange. If you add in the missing pieces, it makes President Bush look like the boorish one, with Webb the concerned father.

It is also curious that Mr. Will did not write a similar piece when Dick Cheney told Senator Leahy to, “Go (bleep) himself,” on the Senate floor, or when Bush used a vulgar term for women’s anatomy in response to a Courant reporter asking him about what he spoke to his father.

Judging by the response that Webb has gotten from Will and other media figures on the right over this incident, it seems that this sometimes blunt former Reagan appointee has gotten the attention of the Republican establishment and has them worried.

1. What vulgar term did Bush use regarding a woman's anatomy?
I missed that conversation. Does anyone have a link?

Q: When you're talking about politics, what do you and (your father) talk about?
Bush: Pussy.

3. What, if anything, did Will say about Cheney's remark to Shumer
telling him to go f*** his self? I don't remember Will commenting about it being boorish or vulgar. Double standard.

5. Turnabout is fair play
You turn the tables on Will and make him look petty and partisan.

Will is a great columnist, but once in a while he misses the mark by a mile. For example, he acknowledges global warming, but says nothing can be done about it, so what the hell? We'll just let future generations deal with it while we enjoy our luxuries.

You're exactly right--Webb has gotten under their skin.

8. There was an implied answer in Webb's response to *. . .
re "How's your boy?". When Webb said, "I'd like to get them out of Iraq", it's implicit that the soldiers are not doing as well as they could be doing, that they'd be doing better if they were brought home. I think this answer irritated * as it wasn't something he wanted to hear, so out of irritation he asked again, "That's not what I asked. How's your boy?".

Will ignores the implied response.

Also it was good that you included the parts Will deliberately left out.

11. well, Bush probably missed it
because he never served in a war and wouldn't know... and, it's not quite the same worry as having your daughters galavanting nude around hotels.

have been coined especially for George Will. I can't stand that man.

13. As long as boorish behavior is on the table ...
I have to wonder if Mr Will went off about Smirk using the hem of a woman's jacket to clean his glasses - not only boorish, sexist too.

15. so many examples from *
Didn't he also refer to another report as a "major league asshole" and Cheney agreed with him, saying "big time" ? or, was that Cheney who said major league asshole, and Bush who said big time?

Or, the time with the blind reporter who was wearing sunglasses indoors and Bush kept insisting he take the glasses off?

and, isn't there a pic of Bush sticking his middle finger up somewhere at somebody?

And, didn't he ask the president of Brazil if they had any black people there?

Or, when he got all hissy when an American reporter asked the president of France a question in (gasp) French?

And... well, you get the idea.

20. Will the Shill is one of the dorks the Thugs use as a cleaner.
There were calls last year (when Williams and Gannon were in the news for manufacturing stories for the Busheviks) for Will to divulge his personal finances ... that never happened.

17. I think that LTTE
are one of the most important things that citizens at the grass roots level can do to promote democracy. I have long recognized that you are as good at the art as anyone I have ever had the pleasure to read. It is always a pleasure to read your work! Thank you, and keep up the great work.

I appreciate the kind words.

I'm not really the type of person that will get in a Freeper's face to confront them over something, or argue with them in public over the issues, so writing is my preferred outlet.

21. UPDATE - Letter is getting published
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 08:22 PM by NewJeffCT
The Hartford Courant editor sent me an email saying it will be used in the next few days. Said he had not heard the story about Bush telling David Fink of the Courant how he talked to his father about pussy, either.

Thanks to the folks who gave me the constructive criticism.

Also, I'm amazed at the number of politcally attuned people who don't know about what Bush said he talks to his father about.

23. The real news doesn't get through the corporate filter
especially since it's almost 20 years old.

There is a whole litany of things we could use against Bush.
