Wesley Cales wants custody of the baby. He would not answer questions Wednesday night, but he told a television reporter earlier: "It would be my boy. It would mean everything to me."

Cales said Heck might not have told him about the baby because she feared fallout from their church leaders. "She might have thought they would disown us," he said.

The couple attends Calvary Apostolic Church on Telegraph Road. The church's pastor, the Rev. Alan Westmoreland, said he visited Heck in the jail on Wednesday.
