I learned something on DU today

Only SUV's are in accidents in wintry weather, there has never in the history of automobiles been a car involved in an accident during a snow or ice storm. I am amazed I didn't know this. Thanks.

1. Context?
Did someone have a problem with an SUV in the snow, or did they just post that out of the blue?

Maybe you just shouldn't have bought that SUV in the first place.

9. Good reply.
Those things block my advance planning and they are often assholes in inclement weather.

13. If you're talking about this thread
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2832127#2833367

perhaps you didn't get the inference ...

I have seen so many (status-symbol) SUVs without a speck of mud on them ... and aren't SUVs supposed to be good for all kinds of weather and terrain?

I'd like to see Ahnold driving in a blizzard ... see how well he handles the SUV that hasn't seen anything but concrete and asphalt ...

Or maybe you just forgot to add :sarcasm: ?

18. Sounds like a classic "strawman" logical fallacy.
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 02:49 PM by Lex
Google it. Here's a quick primer:

Straw man

The straw man fallacy is when you misrepresent someone else's position so that it can be attacked more easily, knock down that misrepresented position, then conclude that the original position has been demolished. It's a fallacy because it fails to deal with the actual arguments that have been made.
