The Conservatives of this country seem to feel a particularly destructive sense of entitlement.
Entitlement to the lion's share of our planet's resources, slave labor, welfare for their businesses, massive salaries, lax environmental policies, and the freedom to worship their religion and only their religion.

I've always heard them complain about what is termed "entitlements" and those who need them to survive in their world of greed. I think they've got it backward. They are the one's who feel "entitled"; to rewrite truth and to stomp on anyone and everything that gets in their way.

Their slogan should be:

"I've got mine! And I'm entitled to yours as well if I can figure out a way to get it."

2. 20/20 last nite
and "Stossel" had a survey and an "expert" that said conservatives give more to the poor than liberals. Using the salvation army bucket as an example. What an ASSHOLE that Stossel is.

7. If they do, it's for the tax cuts. If they cared, it would be evidenced
by their policies.

Army - we are liberals. I forgot to say that many conservatives give to purely faith based causes that only help those who kiss their *ss.

16. That's Bull
because even I, a secular, liberal, jewish progressive usually through some money in the Salvation Army bucket. My dollars are not proof that conservatives give money.
:grr:

I'll tell you one think I know from thousands of hours of volunteer work: Liberals are far more likely to volunteer their time.

20. this may be true...however Republicans have a massive record of supporting volunteerism...
you know why? because volunteering is working or nothing. Republicans have been trying to get people to work for nothing for decades.

It's slavery that the republicans want to support.

Anyone with any iota of sense would know you cannot draw conclusions about liberals and conservatives based on a bucket outside a store. Stossel is a straight-up ASSHOLE.

29. Worst part, they compared Sioux Falls as the conservative example....
Without naming the multiple Payday loan centers, our homeless that get screwed when the local "Christians" want to spend the munincipal money on a multi-million Sports complex in the rich part of town instead of an actual shelter. A homeless person that has been helped out by my uncle wants to go to Minneapolis, because we have so few opportunities. What a crock.

3. It's all about 'what you can get away with' nowdays
'Success' in acheiving a goal acts as the ethical justification of that goal, as though non-ethical goals could never succeed (Gawd wouldn't let them).

Ergo, if you succeed, then that is proof in and of itself that you acted 'correctly'.

Ergo, you should be as unethical as you need to be in acheiving that goal, since if you succeed, it will 'wipe out' any misdeeds you've committed in it's pursuit.

It's sort of a dishonest 'Chicago School of Economics'-type take on Calvinism, in my opinion.

6. YES! " Ergo, if you succeed, then that is proof in and of itself that you acted 'correctly'."
I had a boss like that. It really blew my mind that the success was proof of the good of the practice. Unreal!

18. That is a standard corporate justification.
No matter how unethical, corrupt and destructive a company is, they get admired and praised as a good and effective company because they are successful. They get an undeserved reputation as good corporate citizens simply because they make their numbers on wall street.
x(

And in any company that does try to be good the officers are going to get sued by shareholders for violation of their fiduciary duties. Money must come first.

10. exactly!
if you cheat and win, it just proves you are "smarter" than everyone who decided to not cheat.

And this is seen as brilliant by the sheep. Look at how people don't care how Bush got where he is, just that he did. In fact, the idea that he got there with NO hard work makes him even more admirable to the alleged "meritocrats"

25. Even though I am a fan of the show "Survivor"
I can see how that philosophy is practiced in people's lives within that competition. A lot of those reality shows are not won by the person with the most skill or talent, but by the one who is the most unscrupulous.

A sad commentary that those who act in such a manner are richly rewarded.

By the way, if anyone wonders why I watch "Survivor", I used to be into wilderness survival (when I was young), so I watch "Survivor" for that element, which has been sadly diminishing from season to season. I like to watch that other Man Against Nature Show, too...when it is on.

was less about surviving and more about being a craphead. :)

oh well. You hear there's a new Pirate themed reality Survivor-esque show being developed by CBS?

5. My workplace is almost entirely composed of Democrats, but
we do have one or two self described political conservatives. They are the most selfish, self-centered, rude, unappreciative of all who work here. They are always first in line for group meals...and they never clean up after themselves. They never donate to the group fund for the needy at Thanksgiving. And we are talking a $2 donation. It is like they feel the world owes them a pass on human decency. The feel entitled to write their own rules when it suits them. I just realized they really do feel a sense of entitlement to "play through" what's going on around them in order to serve themselves with whatever they feel they want. It's disgusting.

going to be the next Bill Gates and they're willing to slit their mothers' throats to do it. Cheating is an acceptable thing to do. Padding your resume is a given. 'Ethics' are for losers.

12. "All businessmen are completely full of shit.
Just the worst kind of people you could ever run into. Businessmen. And the proof of it is, they don't even trust each other! When a businessman is negotiating a deal, the first thing he does is assume that the other guy is a complete lying prick who is trying to fuck him on the deal. So he has to do everything he can to fuck the other guy a little bit harder and a little bit faster." - George Carlin

23. biz students would take philosophy classes as CRIP courses at my U
every semester. every class had a little bevy of them thinking that "Eastern Religions" or "Marxism" would be breezy. they rarely showed up to class. never did the work, and raised holy immortal hell when they didn't pass -- to the degree that my profs would end up in administrative doodoo having to prove the kid deserved a failing grade.

you hit the nail on the head with those losers. now i have to fucking work for them, as i took my philosophy degree and went into writing/design, which is usually a marketing function. now, these are the pieces of shit who take credit for my work.

hmmm. there's some anger there.

At least if our policies are any indication.

They have a slogan, it's "All for ourselves and nothing for others.", what Adam Smith called "the vile maxim of the masters of mankind".

17. Entitlement - Exactly!
They suppose themselves to be better than "others" therefore they are entitled to whatever they can get of theirs.
When they can't get everything they want - they have resentment.

My nutty RW neighbor always complains about "other people." Caught the jerk in my yard with his bucket picking MY blackberries. A small example but it summed up the RW philosophy nicely.

That really nails it! They are the biggest entitlement freaks ever, while they accuse the poor and unfortunate of what they are guilty of themselves.
