3. .
"George - Why is it wrong for Senator elect Webb to be candid and brusque to a man who had put his son in harms way under false pretenses. To rip Webb for being rude is one thing, but ripping him for poor use of the english language when he is addressing the one person in our public sphere that murders it on a minute-by-minute basis shows how silly you can be sometimes. Guess it must have been a slow news day when this became the talk of the town. Finally, let us not forget that our elected officials, Republicans and Democrats alike, all use conversational english and are human...unlike you. Get a life."

4. My comment:
Will, you are such a hypocritical gasbag! You were right, however, in saying that "people decline to be led by leaders who are insufferably full of themselves." That would be why the Republicans got trounced in the midterms, and if anyone can be described as full of himself -- which in his case is synonymous with "full of s--t" -- Dear Leader Bush would head the list, followed closely by you.

5. Wow
I just read George Will's column.

What a cranky, pompous bastard he's become. I didn't realize it was necessary in the US to patronize murderers, whatever office they may hold. And ripping on Webb's grammar just illustrates the desperate straits Bush-defenders are in.

6. not to mention that for a Bush supporter to rip on someone's
grammar breaks the space-time-irony continuum

Well, I guess nothing exemplifies how out-of-touch elite media pundits are than this mockery of a column. Ignoring the irony of attacking the grammar and language of a man conversing with perhaps the greatest serial butcher of the English language in the history of American politics, this column is indicative of how contemptuous the pundit class is of people that show real moral outrage to the thugs that populate our politics yes, I mean the President. How DARE he not kiss the ring when in the court? Perhaps that is the outrage of someone who understands what the real costs of war are, has seen their effect in person and on those he knows and loves, and can no longer stand the moral and cognitive dissonance of the niceties that are supposed to populate such meaningless social encounters with the people that shepherded the policy that led to this colossal blunder a blunder which the columnist has railed against, but apparently is less outrageous than a slightly awkward social interaction. I have read my final George Will column.

9. Well, let's see....
taking a nation to war based upon a series of lies and at best half truths is a "civil" way to act? Hmmm? I would prefer civility of course, however oversight is much, much more desirable.

14. holy shit!58 pages of comments reaming Will and Bush!!!including mine
Regarding your recent column about the "boorish" Jim Webb-you need to climb out of your ivory tower. As the parent of a soldier who has done 3 war zone deployments,I completely understand Mr. Webb's disgust with this sham of a war,a war so few of our citizens are really fighting.Like Mr. Webb,I'm tired of peoples' patronizing words, thanking me for my son's service, while their own kids kick back on the couch,or booze it up in Argentina.Mr. Webb's son's unit lost several Marines the week before. As the "Commander-in-Chief",our esteemed leader should have known this.Mr. Bush's concern for the welfare of our troops can be measured by his actions, like the plastic photo-op Thanksgiving turkey, failing to provide proper protective gear, and spiraling our nation into the worst blunder of our collective lifetimes.I applaud Mr. Webb, and hope he encourages others to stand up to the little emperor.

30. Here's my favorite
...

In this interchange, Bush was the person who expressed the initial calculated rudeness toward another human being. Rather than saying, How are you adjusting to Washington? or Hows the family? he intentionally brought up the most painful subject possible in order to play the alpha male. Knowing that Webbs son is in grave danger as a direct result of Bushs own actions and that he could decide to bring him back along with other troops--no sic is needed, since the antecedent is clearly implied, but that no one else can make that decision, Bush attacked Webb verbally in his faux-jocular way. Mr. Will, it is our jejune, macho president you should be criticizing

Before and after that one, there are dozens of regular Americans burning Mr. Bowtie a new asshole.

I gave Jim Webb's campaign $100. I'm very happy that I did!

33. Will is a pompous moran
In his Thanksgiving column he claimed turkeys are indigenous to the western Asian region and the nation Turkey, hence the name.

That is so amazingly dumb! Turkeys are from Mexico, and the Spanish invaders brought them back to Europe.
