There is snow place like Chicago


DFW is also having its weather time today, with snow and freezing rain
AA is really taking a beating, as DFW is their major hub, along with ORD!!

6. The weather "event" is pretty much over now for DFW, just a few flurries
left getting down into the 20s tonight, then sunny and 52 tomorrow.
Air traffic via DFW should not be effected by weather here.

7. Same upper level dynamics but not surface dynamics
This is a lee cyclone that has formed on the front side of the upper level trough that dived down through the pacific NW earlier in the week.

8. Dr. D. got out of ORD for DCA two hours late this afternoon.
Seems that American got clobbered in Dallas today (cancelled 200 flights at DFW). They were feeling the effects of DFW cancellations in ORD. Here is the NWS Winter Storm Warning for the Chicago area:

SNOW WILL FALL ACROSS MUCH OF NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST
ILLINOIS. IN EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA A MIX OF

KANKAKEE...THE SOUTHEAST SUBURBS OF CHICAGO...AND NORTHWEST

NORTHEAST WINDS WILL BECOME NORTH AND INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH BY
FRIDAY MORNING. WINDS WILL TURN MORE NORTHWESTERLY BY FRIDAY
AFTERNOON AND GUST AS HIGH AS 40 MPH. THIS WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE
BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW WITH NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. THIS
WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS...ESPECIALLY IN OPEN RURAL
AREAS.

THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM. AVOID TRAVEL LATE TONIGHT AND
ESPECIALLY DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR FRIDAY.
