"Republicans have no reservations about abusing the processes of governing"
http://writ.news.findlaw.com/dean/20061201.html

<snip>

In many ways, Dick Cheney is to Congressional Democrats what Bill Clinton was to Congressional Republicans: An epitome of evil. Republicans saw Clinton as a threat to their "values"; Democrats see Cheney as a threat to their "liberty," if not to democratic government itself. Based on four decades of observing both parties, one of the conspicuous differences I've noted is that Republicans have no reservations about abusing the processes of governing. On the other hand, Democrats do.

Accordingly, when Democrats take control of Congress, they are not likely to repeat the flagrant partisan misuses of investigative powers that Republicans employed against Bill Clinton.

<snip>

John Dean may be a Republican, but he seems like a damn honest and observant one. Spoken like a liberal Democrat almost.

1. I believe Dean has become an Independent -
he has always been highly intelligent, and appears to be very remorseful about his errors and "sins" during the Nixon administration.

Really good book. Another of his that is excellent (IMO) is:

As a life-long, yellow dog Democrat, I never thought I'd actually go out and try to find a book written by someone whom I associated with great evil (Nixon). I read both, and find that Dean is not the monster I'd originally thought of him as being.

And it turned him off.

2. Most Americans want to know how we ended up in Iraq.
It's not a partisan issue.

Most know that the GOP went on a witch hunt of the Clintons.

Two separate matters.

4. Not really.
"They" wanted to take over the Caspian Basin oil. To do so they required war powers in the United States which meant acquiring the presidency which meant getting rid of whoever held the presidency. Had Gore or Biden or anyone else held the presidency they would also have trumped up charges on him. Just as they maligned Gore and Kerry. And Dean.

One long-term goal. One matter.
