Kucinich: There is Only One Way to End The War in Iraq, Part 2
Democrats have hinted at an ambitious domestic agenda by their choices for the first 100 hours of the new Congress. This "down payment" will consist of an increase in the minimum wage, a reduction in college tuition, among other things.

The Democratic majority is upbeat about establishing a domestic agenda including additional funds for health care and education. But, the unassailable fact is that the war is devouring the hopes for any domestic agenda. Each and every vote to fund the war is a vote to drive the United States deeper into debt and further away from humane aspirations.

In the spring of 2007 a new Supplemental Appropriations bill, estimated in published reports at $130 billion will be brought to Congress. Added to the $70 billion bridge fund, this equals $200 billion for Iraq in FY2007 alone. Compare this with $117.6 Billion for all missions in FY06.

1. thank god for Dennis Kucinich-- please keep the pressure on, DK....
Congress must not give antiwar lip service out of one side of its mouth and fund its continuance with the other.

3. we have got to keep the pressure on congress!
Dennis needs our help.

He is standing strong and telling us exactly what needs to be done, and we must tell congress loudly that it is time to cut off these war profiteers funds! We cannot just trust that congress will do the right thing. They have been enabling Bush all this time, and it doesn't look like they are planning on stopping.

They need to hear from US that this war is unacceptable!! and that lying to start it is also unacceptable!!

Stop the war then impeach the lying bastards so we can send them to the Hague! /endrant

2. Bushco must learn to pay as you go, That 8 Billion is still missing in Iraq and never
been brought back up in over 2 years. The notion of giving anyone BLANK checks is flat out dumb especially when we're talking 70-80 Billion at a time, this is something the repugs just spread that cash around to the hallibuton crowd who supply the troops with shit water!!!!!!!

4. and the new funds they are asking for are very open ended
They can use it for Iran!

"But because it is not specific—and think about a $130-billion appropriation that is not specific!— this could be used to fund a potential attack on Iran. This $130 billion could also be part of a slush fund for an expansion of military spending and essentially taking it off budget. "

http://www.truthdig.com/interview/item/20061205_rep_dennis_kucinch_no_more_money_for_war_on_iraq/

"What we have here is a situation that is totally out of control. Not only does the administration feel unrestrained in spending, but they also apparently feel unrestrained by the mandate which the American people gave the Democrats on November 7th. The Democrats in Congress have a moral obligation to take a new direction with respect to Iraq, and that direction is out. The administration is borrowing money to fund this war. This administration has not shown any willingness to suffer any kind of oversight on the spending, but the ultimate oversight is when the bill is up for passage."
