who would/could have predicted that Bill Clinton would have an endearing friendship with Poppy Bush |
|
and the rest of the bushes following his own 8 year term as president and not with his very own faithful VP, and at the time seemingly good friend, Al Gore.
Life is indeed a box of chocolates. you never know what lies ahead.

1. Even Worse, Who'd Have Guessed Bill Would Turn His Back On US? |
|
This is a case of the friend of my enemy being an enemy, too.

3. Clinton has always been about getting along and America first. |
|
Republicans are very much about Republicans first. They are sure they are the only ones that have all the answers and the rest of America and the world can just go to hell. Clinton has always wanted bipartisanship. He appointed a Republican for Secretary of Defense and tried every way in the world to work with Republicans. They on the other hand did everything in their power to exclude Democrats in every way possible. It is obvious to any who really look who are the true American patriots...and it is not those that wish to divide America so they can win a political battle...

but I think is because Clinton has more in common with the Bushes then he did with the Gores. I feel the Clintons are into harvesting/keeping power as are the Bush family.

11. there might be something to your observation. |
|
...a major difference being, though, that they might try to do some good as opposed to all the misery, death and chaos these bushes continue to plant every time they have any power.

7. Publically supporting both Bushes for entire 4yrs before 2004 election was GENIUS |
|
and really made sure the public understood that there was nothing to FEAR about the Bush family and that their major policy decisions were supported even by the LAST DEM PRESIDENT. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2867222

9. President Clinton would rather get along with everyone. |
|
And I am sure he still keeps in touch with the Gore's. You have to know he is proud of what Al Gore is doing with his Global Warming Initiative.

10. It was a calculated move on both sides.. Just like ....politics |
|
Had Gore prevailed, Clinton would have probably been appointed to some "do-good" projects (as he is doing now), but Gore would have been dogged his whole term for 'consulting" with Clinton.
Vice presidents HAVE to distance themselves from the presidents they serve, or they never appear to "be their own man".
If you look at "modern times", Truman was elevated to president because FDR died in office.
Eisenhower's veep (Nixon) lost the first time around....
Kennedy's veep (Johnson) became president because Kennedy was assassinated.
Nixon's veep (Ford) ran on his own and lost.
Reagan's veep (Bush1 was the only vice president who immediately succeeded his boss, (through election) but Dukakis was a weak candidate, so I think it was a fluke, and of course he only got one term.
Vice presidents usually run, but they also usually lose.
But back to Clinton. The Bushies NEEDED Bill because he was the "bridge' to a whole bunch of disgruntled democrats, and Bill needed the Bushes because they just happened to be the ones in power, and with Hillary aiming for higher office, why piss 'em off?
Just politics.. strange bedfellows and all that stuff.
