"The Democrats could care less about families"
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 11:50 AM by trumad
<snip>
For lawmakers within a reasonable commute of Washington, longer weeks are not a burden -- although they are likely to cut into members' fundraising and campaigning activities. But for members from Alaska and Hawaii, the West Coast, or rural states, the new schedule will mean less time at home and more stress.

"Keeping us up here eats away at families," said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), who typically flies home on Thursdays and returns to Washington on Tuesdays. "Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families -- that's what this says."

Time away from Washington is just as important to being an effective member of Congress as time spent in the Capitol, Kingston added. "When I'm here, people call me Mr. Congressman. When I'm home, people call me 'Jack, you stupid SOB, why did you vote that way?' It keeps me grounded."

I've been working 5 day weeks my whole adult life... My family is fine.

Maybe I should call my Congressperson (Biggert) and let her know it's only one of a host of reasons I didn't vote for her. (Not that I would have anyway! LOL!)

Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 12:09 PM by Gormy Cuss
I'm taking the Congressman at his word. The Democrats could care less about families, they choose instead to care more than the Republicans do.

p.s. "could care less" when one means "couldn't care less" annoys me too.

Not having to fight traffic. Leaving at 2.

Of course, downtown DC's a lot different, as they don't "stoop" to take public transportation from Bethesda or Chevy Chase.

Then see what kind of toll that kind of workload has on your family cohesion.

You bitch when somebody honestly expects you to work 40 hours a week, yet too many of your Repub friends remain mute as ordinary workers work more hours than they ever have, more than workers in all other industrialized nations, for pay that is often the lowest on average in the industrialized world.

where most of the jobs are and you'd better plan on Saturday and Sunday to be away from the family too.
I hope this makes some headlines to show people what these people are like and what they think of them. The fact that they could even think of saying something like this while making what they do and getting their benefits besides the fact that they campaigned for this job, they weren't drafted or made to work in Congress. It's supposed to be a privilege.

the remaining week of the month. See what that does to a marriage and family life. What life?   And vacation time? Forget that! Republicans congress critters couldn't care less about families and apparently they don't want to work but they expect to be paid anyway. Nice work if you can get and they did.

57. no, it was an article about how senators complaining about
being overworked are hardly worked at all.

I think there was a little bias in the reporting though - it showed the reporter traipsing through empty halls and offices, and though I saw it at 4:20 this morning, I'm not sure if it wasn't likewise filmed at 4:00 a.m.

Channel 11 NBC Dallas.

Just the same, it would be instructive to have them work a federal work week for federal minimum wage at least one month a year.

of looking at something. What about the families of America that work 60 hrs a week, what about moms and dads working and hardly seeing their kids to pay for bills and food, what about not having healthcare and losing their homes because they passed a bankrupcy bill that punished them, etc, etc, etc. They are the most self-centered people on the planet these conservatives. 32. How pathetic
What about our troops, who have had to endure multiple deployments? Don't they have families they love? What about people working two minimum wage jobs and still not able to make ends meet...thanks, Cons, for caring about them. Until something happens to them, I guess it doesn't happen, or the people it happens to don't count.

They were against Family Leave, even though it's unpaid. They have preached to thousands of single mothers that it's just too bad if they have to work more than one job to keep their family fed, and don't expect any help from the government, because we've got more important things to consider, like how to get another tax cut to the wealthy slipped in before we leave office. Speaking of the wealthy, how many members of Congress are millionaires?

Their sniveling is really pathetic, and only shows how disconnected they are from the reality their policies have created for millions of hard-working Americans. I guess shipping all those jobs out of the country is their twisted way of being sure more people spend more time with their families, even if they are living in tents because they can't afford decent housing. Conservatives make me sick.

48. My Letter to Jack

To: Jack.Kingston@mail.house.gov
Subject: Hey Jack!

Whatchya doin' Friday? Because I'm actually WORKING, like thousands of your other constituents.

I wonder why you ran for Congress if you didn't want to work for the people?

Hopefully your constituents will remember your unwillingness to actually work for the money that we all pay you when you're up for re-election. Your laziness and whining are an embarrassment.

If your family is so spirtually and emotionally weak, sickened and dysfunctional that you all can't survive while you're actually working a semi-full work week as a Congressman, then you should resign and seek therapy and help to hold your withered, damaged relationships together. Good luck with that.
