JESUS HAS RETURNED!!!
Thief, sober and sorry, returns statue of Jesus

December 6, 2006

Jesus was back on his pedestal, and all was right with the world at the Little Brothers of St. Francis yesterday morning.

Under cover of darkness, the statue of Jesus pointing to his Sacred Heart that was stolen from the front of the Franciscan order's Mission Hill compound over the weekend was returned late Monday or early yesterday with a handwritten apology from a sobered-up penitent.

"I'm very sorry about stealing your statue," the neatly penned note said. ". . . I had been drinking and made an extremely poor and out of character decision."

Brother James Curran, founder of the order, said: "We take it back in the spirit of forgiveness. The forgiveness was there before it was returned."

I had suspected that The Garden Gnome Liberation Front was behind this one, but it appears I was wrong.

5. The Sacred Heart of Jesus.
I used to work at a food warehouse and at this time of the year they got several cases of religious candles to probably sell at their stores in the Chicago. They were the tall, narrow candles with a picture of Jesus, captioned "The Sacred Heart of Jesus". At least that is how they were supposed to be captioned. One of my nosy coworkers had to open one of the cases to look at the candles, and they did look good except instead of saying the Sacred Heart of Jesus it said the "Scared Heart of Jesus". Spell check did no good in that case, but can you imagine if those had gone out to the stores? It was funny though.
