Why Does the Media Still Listen to Joe Lieberman?
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 11:27 AM by Jon8503
by Paul Hogarth - San Francisco's Alternative Media

It’s incredible to what extent the mainstream media will go out of its way to undermine the new Democratic majority in Congress. First, they tried to spin the anti-Bush mandate of the November 7th elections as a victory for centrism – as they blatantly lied about how the newly elected Democrats are “conservative.” Second, they used Nancy Pelosi’s support for Jack Murtha as House Majority Leader (and his loss to Steny Hoyer) as evidence that the party is “weak” and “divided” on the War in Iraq. Most recently, they took a testy exchange between President Bush and Senator-elect Jim Webb (where it’s obvious that Bush bullied him) – and blamed Webb for being a “boor.” And for crying out loud, what’s with the constant love affair with Joe Lieberman – and the delusion that he somehow represents the Democratic Party?

1. Well he's a Senator from an important state, and ...
he won a tough election under extraordinary circumstances. He was the Dem candidate for VP in 2000 and nearly won.

I think they pay attention to him because he's an important political figure.

3. He is still thoughtlessly called a Democrat, by everybody
I want everyone raising a big stink every time the media calls him a Democrat instead of a JoeLiebermanforConnecticut. Or whatever.

5. If he didn't call himself a Dem, we wouldn't have the Senate.
You guys need some perspective.

4. Because he still keeps telling them what they want to hear. It's his JOB.
Quislings have ALWAYS been a part of any repressive Government's
propaganda plan. Whether it's effective or not, they have to
have someone who spouts their opinions while pretending to
be a member of the opposition.

It allows them to keep claiming that those who opose them
are just a "crazy radical minority". They always have their
little pet Dem to point to and say, "He's a Democrat, and he
supports us". And people who aren't politically AWARE are left
with the idea that B*sh has some sort of Bipartisan support.
