Phone cards for veterans
Working Assets, Veterans for Peace, CODEPINK, Iraq Veterans Against The War, and Gold Star Families for Peace are teaming up to deliver phone cards to vets stuck at Veterans Administration hospitals, so they can call their loved ones over the holidays. (The VA generally doesn't cover the cost of these calls.)

Please consider a gift to support this project . Even just a few dollars will go a long way towards helping vets reconnect with their families over the holidays.

As of today, Friday December 15th, we have closed the signups to participate in the phone card delivery visits. If you're still interested in making life better for veterans at your local VA Medical Facility, please sign up with the Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services program -- or call your local VA Hospital and ask for the Voluntary services office.

This is a great way to share holiday cheer with veterans. I signed up to help distribute the cards and I donated money too. If I can take pictures, I will post them. Please consider even a small donation to this very worthy cause. Info at the link.

2. I can't volunteer but I donated
Not looking for a pat on the back. Just wanted you to know your post had an effect. This is a great idea and the organizations involved are highly reputable.

3. I wonder if anyone contacted MCI (now Verizon) about providing free calls.

They did at a Ronald McDonald house I stayed at and I noticed recently they were providing free calls to another organization (can't remember who, but it was a very worthy cause. Katrina people maybe?)
