"Why would any conservative Christian work in conjunction with a LIBERAL!"
What won't these people work themselves into a lather about?

MEDIA ADVISORY, Dec. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- Why would any conservative (especially those calling themselves Christians), work in conjunction with a liberal like Charles Haynes of the Freedom Forum / First Amendment Center?

There have been many articles in the liberal press by Charles Haynes, touting him as an expert on issues of religion in the public arena, especially in the area of public schools.

It should be known that:

Charles Haynes is author of a Communitarian Manifesto on Religious Education.

The Communitarian Network, who Charles Haynes writes for, has been written about by both Joseph Farah, founder of World Net Daily, and General Ben Partin. Joseph Farah says “the best I can decipher of this popular new idea of Communitarianism is that it is not a new idea at all. To put it in its simplest form, I would describe it as a form of Communism for people who believe in God”. General Ben Partin says that the bottom line of the Communitarians is to bring in Communism.

Charles Haynes has also written "Public Schools and Sexual Orientation; A First Amendment Framework", which is endorsed by the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network.

Charles Haynes used to work for the liberal Americans United for Separation of Church and State, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Charles Haynes is a board member of the Pluralism Project, along with a self-professed wiccan high priestess.

Charles Haynes is the author of "When the Government Prays, No One Wins", where he infers that the National Day of Prayer should be illegal.

Charles Haynes works closely with Oliver Thomas (a well known ACLU attorney).

Charles Haynes writes educational documents for the Council On Islamic Education.

The Temple of Understanding has a division called Hartley Films, which has endorsed some of Charles Haynes’ videos.

Charles Haynes of the Freedom Forum / First Amendment Center has developed the guidelines by which the Bible Literacy Project textbooks were written (both the student text and Teacher’s Edition). Five of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board members of the Bible Literacy Project are signatories to the Communitarian Platform.

A good question to ask is - why would the Bible Literacy Project be working closely with Charles Haynes and his Communitarian friends, including having him as a key speaker at both of their press conferences in Washington, DC, referring teachers to Haynes’ guidelines on how to teach Bible curriculum in public schools, and even having him as a contributor to the Bible Literacy Project textbooks?

It is amazing to note, especially at this time of the year, that while Charles Haynes promotes the Bible Literacy Project’s textbooks as a great scholarly accomplishment, both the student and teacher texts say that Jesus was born in Nazareth.

1. Judas was a Conservative, and he managed to work well with Jesus for a long time.

Oh, wait.

Jesus may have been a Liberal, but he wasn't Christian, was he?

2. It has always offended me that these shallow people can affix Dr to their names!
They demean the appellation, awarded to learned people. Which exhibit demonstrates Drake most certainly is not. If he happens to be learned, he most assured is not thoughtful. How can such a hateful little man profess to be the frontman for a "benevolent" God? Charlatan!

3. That is pretty funny:
It is amazing to note, especially at this time of the year, that while Charles Haynes promotes the Bible Literacy Project’s textbooks as a great scholarly accomplishment, both the student and teacher texts say that Jesus was born in Nazareth.

Merry Christmas to you - to everyone (and you don't have to be christian to accept this hope for you). In fact, I don't believe religion has that much to do with it at all.

Good post - interesting.

4. For one thing, Jesus was a liberal
For another, communism is at the very heart of the church created by Jesus.

And all who believed were together and had all things in common; and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need. (Acts 2:44-45)

Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common. (Acts 4:32)

And lastly, Jesus preached a firm separation of Church and State. He said that people should keep their religious lives private and not make them a matter of public inspection. (See the 6th chapter of Matthew.) Arguably, he also preached a separation of church and state. "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's" (Matthew 22:21b) can be interpreted as a mandate to keep religious beliefs and civic duties separated.

I find it astonishing at how many of these purported Christian leaders are so abysmally ignorant of their own sacred scriptures.

5. I'm pretty sure Jesus was for tax-cuts and lying about WMD in order to
invade and steal someone else's oil. This guy reminds me of the Wizard of Oz. "I am the Mighty Interpertor of Christ's words! Do NOT look behind the curtain!"

Give Dr. Wiley and his like thinking brethren a few more years and they will totally discredit their conservative political religious worldview completely. They are doing far more damage to the spirit of Christ than anything us atheists/agnostics could ever dream of doing.

7. I remember twenty years ago when they were working with radical feminists on some issues.
I guess if this guy doesn't think that it's expedient to form an alliance with someone they agree with on some things and not on others, it's his business, but I recognize it as an effective practice.

As I've said before, there are even things I'd ally with the FReepers on!
