:wow:

LONDON (AFP) - A British mother could get into the record books after she gave birth to twins and a single baby at the same time -- from two wombs -- in what is believed to be a world first.

Hannah Kersey, 23, gave birth to the rare triplets -- identical twins Ruby and Tilly, and singleton Gracie -- by Caesarean section seven weeks prematurely in September.

She was born with a condition called uterus didelphys, which means she developed two wombs, but doctors had warned her that she was unlikely to become pregnant in both.

After their early birth the triplets had to stay in hospital for nine weeks, but are now doing fine at home with Hanna and her partner Mick Faulkner, 23, in Devon in southwest England.

1. Doctors told her it was unlikely she'd get preggers in both. Buhwawa!

2. The weird thing to me is
how'd she get pregnant in both at the exact same time? Those are some pretty crafty sperm.

11. I'd assume there were ripe eggs in both sets of fallopian tubes at the same time
Since she's only got one bloodstream, both sides would get the same hormones and have ova at the right stage of development to be fertilized at the same time (well, within days of each other, anyway).

3. I had this condition
I was the first person in California to have corrective surgery. Both of the wombs were small but one was too small to carry a child. I had one child and three miscarriages before I had the surgery. This was back in the 60's. I asked to have my tubes tied at the time but was not allowed to do so because I only had one living child. Back then you had to have three living children before you could have sterilization. What a world.

7. Seriously,
This was a long time ago and it was not funny at the time. It wasn't discovered until I gave birth to my first child. Unfortunately, I had a lot of trouble with that one, things being as they were. Medicine has come a long way since then.

8. I certainly did not mean to imply
It was funny in the least. I hope you did not take it that way. I was using the Crazy smilie for the absurdity of that happening in California. I find that shocking, but then perhaps not so much in the 60s?

Thank you for sharing your story and yes, medicine has come a long way in the last half century especially regarding infertility. I am the mother of two IVF babies.

6. Thank you for your story
Both the medical and the social part. Three living children before you could have the bc of your choice... What a world indeed.

10. The patriarchal medical community used to think that us 'wimmin folk"
were prone to "whims" and couldn't think "clearly" when it came to stuff like pregnancy.. (all those raging hormones, donthchaknow..

I had to ASK for tubal ligation after TWO abruptions..and then the doctor asked.."are you sure"?

I calmly told him.."YES, I am sure that I don't want to nearly die again..and three boys under 5 is plenty for me "

13. In the mid-90s, the dctor was reluctant to do my tubal--after I had two kids!
Because I was still in my twenties, he thought I might still want to have more babies. And then I had to have it done at a separate outpatient surgery center instead of the big hospital I gave birth at, because it was a Catholic hospital and wouldn't allow its OR to be used.
