Poll question: What is the political leaning of your relatives
you may encounter during the holiday season. I've seen a number of blogs about right wing relatives that make us boil underneath.

Dad: Republican, but not right-wing. Didn't vote for The Village Idiot in '00 or '04; supports John McCain.

Two brothers: Bush groupies.

Two other brothers: Moderate Democrats.

Mother: Moderate Democrat.

Stepmother: Independent.

Sisters: One moderate Dem, one apolitical.

Hubby and I: Moderate Dems.

All of my in-laws are liberal-to-moderate Democrats.

3. Um, where's mainly left wing with a few mollified righties?
Both sides of my fam (mine and my fiances) are majority left leaning with a few right wingers that have learned to keep quiet or we will "discuss" things with them.

9. Other: Like liberal oatmeal with lumps.
The majority are liberal, ranging from somewhat apolitical muddled-in-the-road liberals to well-informed and staunch liberals, sprinkled with rock-hard, dense, egotistical conservatives.

11. My side of the family is great. My mother, brother and sister are all
unshakably liberal. My father has been a left-leaning moderate for most of his years, but is drifting to the right as he enters his dotage.

My wife's side of the family are all a bunch of Bush-worshippin', gun-totin', Gawd-Blayess-Murkka reich-wingers. My wife is by far the most progressive of the bunch and even she is pretty far to the right. Gotta love her, though. I didn't marry her for her politics. B-)

13. 50/50
my father in law is conservative with his social views, aka gay marriage, abortion, death penalty...but he is liberal when it comes to social programs, aka welfare, health care, things of that nature.

My wife and I are making leaps/bounds with his thoughts on gay marriage, but his dp stance his solid. His abortion views are...hard to determine, I think he struggles with it, from day to day...

My mother in law, is a lot more liberal/democratic...her main issue is Gay marriage as well, but she is starting to change drastically. Her views fall in line with the democratic party almost to a tee, and she is a devout christian, as well as her husband.

The rest of the family is left, or lefty left...with my wife's side...although, there are some RW kickers on her extended side in Oklahoma...

My side of the family...mom and pop, straight libs...my moms only hang up, is the abortion issue, my fathers only issue is the uniouns...my grandma, and aunt are both Dems, and both of their hang ups are abortion too.

In all, my family/married family is rather blue....

14. Libertarians on both sides.
My parents and my in-laws. The biggest thing we all have in common is that we all think Bush is a total asshat and needs to be thrown into the sea along with all his "peering-into-everyone's-bedroom" fundie friends.

16. Other: They are now *cough... "Independents".... *cough....
Edited on Fri Dec-22-06 04:06 PM by MazeRat7
Both sides made it well known they were republicans for years. But the last couple of times we've spoken the point was made that they are really "independents" and have actually voted for several democrats in the past. I guess they mean Kennedy because I don't think there were old enough to vote for Truman.

21. Interesting how many new Libertarians and Independents
there are now that people are starting to realize that * has no clothes on. Make sure you remind them of their past voting record. Even though the elephant is the GOP's symbol the repukes sure do have a short memory.

17. We're pretty much conservative Democrats.
We have some disagreements, but not enough that we get mad at one another.

The main exception is my wife. Other than abortion, she's pretty far to the left.

22. All over the map
Some left wing, some right depending on the issue, so we have lots of cross overs and shifting alliances during discussions. For example, the same person you spent arguing against on a topic like abortion is your ally on the environment. Makes for a fun time and everyone is pretty respectful and light hearted about it.
