Violent Storms Hit Florida on Christmas

By BRENT KALLESTAD
Associated Press Writer

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Powerful storms damaged at least three dozen homes as heavy rain and strong wind swept across the Southeast on Monday.

The worst damage was in Florida, between Tampa and the Georgia border, where three people were injured and three homes were destroyed.

In Pasco County, along the Gulf coast just north of Tampa, two people were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and more than two dozen homes were damaged as a storm passed the Tampa Bay Golf & County Club shortly before noon, sheriff's deputy Doug Tobin said.

A roof was blown off a home in nearby San Antonio, and several trees were knocked over by high winds, one briefly blocking a county road intersection in New Port Richey, Tobin said.

Farther north, near Lake City, about 60 miles west of Jacksonville, at least two homes were destroyed and 10 others damaged. The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for the area Monday morning, and weather service meteorologist Scott Carroll said the damage most likely resulted from a tornado....

3. Northeast Florida here. Very heavy rains, but not much wind.
The roof didn't cave in so we're doing alright.

The retention ditches are so full and the front yard so wet that we might (just for today) rename our street Lake Shore Drive. :)

4. I'm in SW Pasco County
We had some pretty good winds and heavy rain. I had a drenched dog, who stood out on the pool deck yelling for me to came back from next door.

5. I'm in SW Hernando
We had a little wind and rain most of the day, but the bad stuff passed around us. I also had a wet dog, who didn't give a hoot about the weather and stayed out in the rain by choice!

7. Beautiful day in the Keys, but just an hour ago it started to rain
and blow and thunder. Hearing thunder as I write this. We always get the tail end being so far south. The boat is sitting pretty solid though. Hopefully the worst will be over soon.
