Grassroots movement launched in response to Bush withholding $34 million
in funding from the United Nations Population Fund.
Jane Roberts and Lois Abraham established 34 Million Friends of UNFPA in 2002 when the Bush Administration first announced they would withhold the $34 million that Congress allocated to UNFPA. Today the total amount of blocked funds stands at over $125 million.
The idea behind this project is to ask 34 million Americans to donate at least $1 and in turn, send a message that Americans support UNFPA.
UNFPA helps the most vulnerable women in the world plan their families, give birth safely, and protect themselves from HIV/AIDS. It promotes the rights of women by encouraging equal access to food, education, and healthcare. UNFPA works worldwide to eliminate gender-based violence including female genital cutting and rape used as weapons of war. Show American support by becoming one of the 34 Million Friends and getting involved. Jane and Lois urge you to find out more about 34 Million Friends at www.americansforunfpa.org.

2. K&R -
Will be sending funds as soon as I can get a cashier's check (I don't have a checking acct., but that's a whole 'nother story...)

34 million is what, about 1/3 of the US population? Hell, DU alone could provide 80+k of that!

5. About 1/10, actually.
Is it actually charitably incorporated?

6. I'm confused, is there still a shortfall? The welcome page of Americans for UNFPA
says that an anonymous American donated $36 million.
