I just received our first post-Christmas update from America's Second Harvest. As of 9:00 AM ET this morning, we have raised $12,393 for America's Second Harvest! Thank you!

THERE IS STILL TIME TO DONATE!

The Democratic Underground Year-end Charity Donation Drive ends after December 31, so you still have time to donate. And remember that if you donate before the end of the year, you get a tax deduction on your 2006 taxes. During this season of plenty, shouldn't you do something to help those who are less fortunate?

Because, like another poster suggested, 3,000 people donating $5 each would be $15,000.

I would like to encourage even a small donation. If there are 4,000 people who have not donated and they each give even a mere $2 that would add $8,000 to the total.

My husband's death benefit (something over $200) just came in from Social Security, and some dear person sent me two hundred dollar bills in an anonymous Christmas card - we've been having a hard time since my husband died. I wanted to do something quietly, where no one would know me or give me any grief about donating to a cause when I need money myself, and this was the perfect opportunity. I feel so much better that I was able to do something for someone else this year, when I didn't think it would be possible.

Giving is such a selfish thing - it makes me feel so good, no matter how small the donation.

22. Amazing! That "Tapped Out DU'ers" could have achieved this!

I would never have imagined that this could be possible! DU'ers from their
last bits of coins coming off what we gave to our Mid-Term Candidates could have scraped together that amount of money for FOOD BANKS!

It was a worthy effort and even though so many of us were overloaded with trying to support what little we can give..it's great to know that this Christmas we managed to give so much.

To all those who gave "coins" and those who could afford more ....it's kind of time for :applause: because none of us were expecting this...and that we GAVE means even more when it was "unexpected."

Thanks......to all who pushed this.....I didn't but did donate...and to those who couldn't ...it's understandable...but it was a good effort for those who could donate in YOUR NAME...and believe me we did given this great sum from us out here.

We gave what we could and like most, I wish it could have been more. I have been checking the totals every day waiting to see if we could get the $15,000.00. There is no joy as wonderful as the one you feel when you know you have helped someone.
