early morning, according to the tracking site. While they shouldn't be affected by Bush's* decree, I'm wondering if they will use the Federal Holiday as an excuse not to try to deliver it yet one more day...? Sure damned glad I paid for expedited shipping on that baby...

6. I DONT
I am a mailman so I get the day off, but just let me say this, Unlike NIXON (which we also got a day off for) and Reagan (which we got a day off for), I think Fords passing should be mourned. I think it took guts to pardon Nixon and I think it was the right thing to do. He wasnt a great president or anything like that, but consider the circumstances back then. Do you think CHENEY could restore Faith in the presidency? I dont think so. I think its time to give FORD his due. There isnt a republican out there that stands much of a chance to win, neither did FORD but damn near pulled it off, as the kiddies say, got to give him his props.

he was just doing what his party told him to do. Guts would have been forcing the criminal to stand trial.

Don't forget Ford also signed off on that Warren commission sham. And he gave his stamp of approval to genocide in Timor.

I am glad you get the day off but this "Ford was such a great man" bullshit is just that - BULLSHIT.

43. Why was pardoning Nixon the right thing to do?
Nixon was a criminal; he broke the law and violated his oath of office repeatedly. He deserved to rot in jail. By pardoning him, Ford sent the message that Nixon was somehow above the law--which is about as un-democratic an idea as there is. Ford took it upon himself to subvert the justice system by pardoning the guy who appointed him to his job, for God's sake. It was one of the ugliest instances of political malfeasance in American history, if you ask me.

27. Yes, I agree. The feds do not need this day off, in fact, have they
done this for Reagan and Nixon and Johnson?

The unexpected federal government holiday has actually had an effect on me, I had something coming in the mail that I need for tomorrow morning, and have no access to my P.O. Box, so it pretty much sits there uselessly and I can't get to it until after the meeting for which I will need it.

Anybody up for a conspiracy theory, is there any effect it can have on the Democratic Congress starting up? Does it postpone anything for a day? The thugs would do it for the slightest advantage. And this seems an excuse.

This state is closed down too.

Totally unneeded, IMO. 24 hour a day coverage should do it for the average American's mourning for Gerald Ford.

45. Mail processing is still taking place today
Your package should be there in the morning in time for you to have it when you need it. While I cannot speak for the offices that serve you personally, I work for the USPS as an automation clerk, and thus am able to state with certainty that while mail is not being delivered today, at the plants, it is still being processed.

You should contact your nearest Processing and Distribution center (P&DC) or Bulk Mail Facility (BMC) to find out if anything can be done for you personally. They won't be able to actually unite you and your package, but they should be able to tell you whether the package in question is likely to be there tomorrow morning. They may even be able to tell you how to contect your local postmaster so you can speak to him or her personally. Actually, trying to raise the postmaster might be a better bet...

If it was mailed in the past couple days, chances are that it's waiting to be dispatched to your location. We didn't have a dispatch last night in my plant that I'm aware of, but then, I wasn't there. I do know there were people in the building New Year's Day, though. It's likely to have been the case everywhere else, too.

46. Here's why:
Postal managers- the higher-ups who don't necessarily need to piddle around with whether or not the leave book is full, and who don't do any actual work germane to moving or delivering the mail, decided that the Service Needs (tm) dictate postal employees cannot have their New Year's holidays coincide with the national day of mourning, because that would give workers too many days off in a row.

As usual, this postal fuckup has been brought to you by postal management- they fuck up the service for YOU!

Theory: postal managers are postal managers because they would never be able to succeed as managers in any other line of work.

Ford thwarted the will of the American people and gave the finger to the American justice system. Nixon should have gone to jail, just like his flunkies did--instead, the guy he appointed returned the favor by pardoning him. That episode remains one of the great moral/political travesties in American history. Enough with the posthumous canonization, already.

64. Do You Seriously Need Attention This Badly? I Feel For You.
The only psychological explanation for such a ridiculous post is that you knew it would be controversial and provocative, as well as garner "hear hear!'s from the cliques, and that you craved attention so badly that you felt the need to let it fly.

My only comments/advice would be to please find a more respectful, tactful, decent and productive way to garner attention in the future.

67. Not controversial at all, or provocative
The only psychological explanation for you thinking it is is your denial.

My comments/advice would be to find a way to not insult other DUers while you work out your problems.

74. Do You Know How Hard It Is To Take You Seriously With All The Yelling?
I try to sometimes. I really really try to. But I just can't. I just end up laughing. Your posts are just too over the top with the yelling, that no matter how hard I try I just cannot take them seriously.

77. DO I CARE???!!
Do I CARE that YOU are having difficulty taking my posts seriously????!!!!

SHOULD I CARE???!!!

Perhaps, instead of trying to psychoanalyze people over the internet, YOU might want to engage in some INTROSPECTION!!!!

AFTER WHICH, you might be able to more fully comprehend the wisdon of what I post!!

65. I agree with you, but I don't think it's a
partisan issue. When a President dies, there's no need to disrupt mail service, particularly on the day after a National holiday when mail also wasn't delivered. There are no doubt a lot of people waiting for important mail - my parents' Social Security checks, for example, and no good reason to make them wait another day.

75. Yes
When a President or former President dies there's always a national day of mourning.

Your post dawned the light for me as to why the markets were closed today. I couldn't bring myself to ask at work - I thought there must be some good reason. I guess not.

79. It's been too much for me.
Every time I turn on the radio or TV, I get a Ford story. (After 6 or 7 commercials, I mean.) I'm watching C-SPAN all the time now because they sometimes go a whole hour without mentioning Ford. Cable news is unwatchable if you've had enough of this wall-to-wall coverage. I gather there will be still more tomorrow! When will it end?

80. I disagree
and the OP subject line reminds me way too much of a freeper post - I thought I was lost for a minute.

I was a Federal govt. employee from 1973 - 1996 and whenever a president died, we got a day off - dem or repug. It is in honor of the office, and the man that held it, no matter what people's personal feelings may be. The same will happen for Carter and for Clinton some day. I can't add GW to that list because there is no longer any honor in the office, or the man who holds it, but sadly, it will probably happen even for him.

We haven't had all that many presidents, and not too many die in one's lifetime, so really, I would think we can get through one day, although no doubt your mail is very important.
