The ballad of the green berets
Typing vitriol on the keyboard today
A freeper types McCarthyite crap
never gone abroad to fight
A freeper types throughout the night.

Loving Bush makes those freepers blind
spewing junk out of their behinds
they don't like their chimp criticized
criticism makes them lose their minds.

Never fighting in a war
doesn't stop a freeper whore
He loves his freedom and not yours
even if you served two tours.

Typing vitriol on the keyboard today
A freeper types McCarthyite crap
never gone abroad to fight
A freeper types throughout the night.

1. And just what does this have to do with Berets?
I don't get it.

After serving with the SF of the 3rd Marine ('69-71 ), I just don't get it.

Help me, here.

Tom

2. A guess
... The reference is to the fictionalized Hollywood rendering of non-participants.

This war. This Administration. Hell no, we sacrifice... others. All is myth, nothing else matters.

3. Speaking of fictionalized
How in the World did my letters become so slanty in the body of my response?

I have often wondered how people here made that happen.

And then it just snuck into my reply.

I had better pour another glass of wine.

5. Where are you at?
I am in Fornicalia (Marin, Tiburon) and am switching from Sauvignon Blanc to Cab (I tend to do that around this time of night).

12. France, France
Oui!

It's cool. So much to exchange between the Old & New Worlds. Americans, so full of confidence and lacking in fear; Europeans, so reconciled with the complexities of reconciling ancient rivalries: it's a winning team so long as it opens itself to getting the job done.

Every small town here has a tragic memorial to the dead of past wars (I don't think there's a national one in all Europe like Washington's). But Europe made it through that and eventually came together, as the US did earlier. There's a lesson there for the world, and I think it's useful.

6. remove the brackets from:
"I was Navy SEAL"

(besides disappearing it from our view) they added that passage to the italicized sig section.
that should change it.

peace

7. Huh?
I am so dumb about this business.

Is there some kind of DU template on this stuff?

I just do not get it, when it comes to these computers. I tend to treat them like typewriters.

10. Ah!
Was that square brackets? They don't work on DU, so avoid 'em.

So many of my subtle nuances lost over these weeks... shit!

11. i know the feeling, really. i'm just learning, with much help from
others. people here will always help.

that post looks just fine as it is, but the way it is now, the part saying you were Navy SEAL does not show, because it is in the kind of brackets that mark a change in text style. if you do edit it, i'd say just redo it, and write the SEAL part without brackets around it. parentheses will let it show. then, the slanting of the letters will (uh, should) - POOF! - vanish! :)

no need to change it, really. and i've repeated that you were Navy SEAL, so maybe next time...

be well and enjoy that fine wine.
goodnight! or rather, good morning, ah...

peace!

14. I was just listening to the ballad of the green berets
Too bad they can no longer feel proud that they defended our country. Bush took that away when he made soldiers torture.
