What Nancy needs most is a sharp sense of humor.. I think she has one |
|
Deflecting the kind of torments she will face, is going to take a lot of patience and a real give and take.
She needs to slyly put these boors in their place.
case in point..
as most of you know I run two large bowling leagues, and trying to maintain civility and order every week with 300+ people (many of whom are drinking) can be a fine art.
Usually the ones who are always complaining about this or that just happen to be men (I am NOT bashing men..just these particular types of men).. I carry with me a big empty bottle of MIDOL, and when one of them gets particularly pissy, and word filters back to me, I just call them to the front desk to ask them to meet with me. I hear them out, and then hand them the bottle.. (unless their complaint is legit)...
and at our end of the season meeting we all have a goodnatured laugh at the "crying towels" I give out to the biggest babies of the past season..
Sometimes, getting these people to recognize that their petty little beef is just that..petty.. works wonders, and most people will shape up when they see that other people are laughing at theit nonsense..

1. An old favorite quote of mine |
|
A walk down the path of history is crunchy with the crispy corpses of those who pooh-poohed or ignored the clown car of ridicule when it pulled-up to the curb. Who would have thought such a tiny car could contain so many infectious and revolutionary guffaws? Satires, parodies, blue humor, pants to the ground ass-wavings, tea-dumping, Modest Proposal submiting, 7 dirty word spewing, flag burning, frankly impolite, just plain rude and improper expressions of ridicule have either ignited reform, fanned the flames or kicked the corpse to make sure it was dead. - Stephen Jones taken from the net

3. Are you secretary of the leagues? |
|
I recall way back when I bowled in four leagues a week that the secretary was the guiding light, the power, the big Kahunta. The Pres and VP just signed stuff and handed out trophies. I do recall some awesome, over the top competitiveness. Certain teams couldn't stand to lose to other teams. Quite a chuckle. I remember a team I bowled on in the 70's benefited from such pettiness. The last night of the season we were in second place, down by one game and the team we were bowling literally hated the first place team and threw four games to us. My bowling bag is up in the attic, I think. Haven't bowled in years.
Good analogy. I'm visualizing Nancy collecting the scoring sheets.

5 per team.. It gets interesting sometimes.
We sweep in Vegas on both leagues:)
A few years back I had one guy who kept telling me that 'this is bullshit".."That is bullshit" and he was going to quit. I waited for him to settle down and then said.."Okay when is your last night..I have someone who wants youtr spot".. he apologized and was a perfect gentleman after taht.
These leagues are "high stakes" leagues.. our point money comes it around $30 a point and the league AVERAGES are 178 and 187, so you can see that most of them are scratch bowlers.. (the BIGGEST babies in the world).. A few weeks ago on Tuesday we had 4 300-games..the same night :eyes:
