Did anyone see "Children of Men" what was the point of that? |
|
It was dealing with illegal immigration and touched on pollution etc, but I guess I wasn't picking out an overall theme. Anyone got any theories?

but I understood it to be a futuristic movie where mankind is paying the price for our *sins* and their hope is the only pregnant female in the world. The hero of the story needs to find the lady and get her to safety - she (or her progeny) will be our new saviour.

3. What's with the Blade Runner reference? Doesn't seem anything like it. |
|
The adds on TV are pushing it. Is there any commonality other than it's that placed in the future.

8. You have to see Blade Runner. |
|
It's not the first but it's definitely the best sci-fi dystopia movie.
I prefer the original version (with voiceover) but I don't think it's available on DVD.

6. A new twist on the apocalyptic film type |

This time no zombies, nuclear wasteland, abominable weather, quakes, wrath of God in some idiotic rapture, or antichrists...just an event that would hit us where it hurts and plays with our fears: taking away our children. What is the point of a future where there are no children? There is no point.
The future is for the children.
How's that for a point?

So much going on even beyond the "infertility" theme. The world is a huge fucking mess in 2027. And since it focuses on UK, there's little US-focus that so many futuristic flicks have. It overwhelms viewers with more questions than answers and painful plausibilities.

11. If you read the articles and headlines which are on the walls |
|
in many of the scenes, it is easy to connect what the world is like in the future to what we are doing now.
Another interesting thing is that only the fertility of humans is affected. And the people who have the most most hope left, have kittens and dogs and puppies as substitutes for having children to care for.
