NRA Pressured To Resist Bush Energy Policies
Hunters Wary of Limited Land Access

By Blaine Harden
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, January 7, 2007; Page A03

SEATTLE -- After years of close association with the Republican Party and hard-nosed opposition to federal land-use regulation, the National Rifle Association is being pressured by its membership to distance itself from President Bush's energy policies that have opened more public land for oil and gas drilling and limited access to hunters and anglers.

"The Bush administration has placed more emphasis on oil and gas than access rights for hunters," said Ronald L. Schmeits, second vice president of the NRA, a member of its board of directors and a bank president in Raton, N.M.

1. Here's a clue:
No oil = no gas for cars to travel in.

No oil = no petrochemical fertilizer to grow crops.

No oil = no petrochemical fertilizer to transport crops.

No oil = no petrochemical fertilizer to package crops.

No oil = no plastic to store crops and make those cute little spork things they eat the food with on their huntin' trips.

Given a choice between hunting and eatin' well, I'll choose eatin' well. Please forgive me.

2. But the Big Bad Dems are going to take your Guns away......?
That has been the Rebel yell of the Pukes for years. And most of NRA bought it hook line and sinker.

5. It took years to convince my son-in-law that we Dems were not
against hunting and all guns. It actually took me giving him shells for his gun for Christmas to get him to think. And yes, he is very concerned about the environment - food chains are threatened by many aspects of pollution.

6. If canned hunts are good enough for the VP, they are good
enough for the rest of us. Small birds only cost about $40 or $50 bucks each. Most of us could knock off 10 or 12 of them each week! Of course bigger game starts to get pricey, but it's not like you can hunt big game every week now is it.

If you can't afford it, go buy a chicken. They all taste the same anyway now that you can't use lead shot.
