I just watched NEW Saddam video - THEY SLIT HIS THROAT TOO |
|
I guess it was revenge killing, or maybe justice? I wonder if we had handed him over to the Kurds, would they have cut his throat first then hanged him? or follow same process as the Shias????
BTW, quality of video is much better than the hanging, someone wanted to film this and make it available.
New Video Appears to Show Body of Saddam After Hanging Monday, January 08, 2007
NEW YORK — A new and graphic video appearing to show the body of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein after he was hanged surfaced Monday on the Web.
The 27-second video, posted on Google, appears to show Saddam's body on a gurney, covered with a white shroud that is removed so the person videotaping has a clear shot at his head and neck. A large and gaping wound is visible on the neck.
A video purporting to show the body of Saddam Hussein is posted on Google Video.
Warning: The content is very graphic and may be disturbing to some viewers.

Saddam was hanged on Dec. 30, 2006.

On edit: Thanks for the link.
My first thought would be this; Is it common for necks to be ripped open as such when someone is hanged?

28. No. Not at all common! |

Though, as another poster note, decapitation can occur, that is generally caused by a too long distance of the drop.
Any who noted the hanging video will have noticed that Saddam was give a piece of cloth to fit around his neck. That was to prevent such damage.
The object of hanging is to break the neck of the executed person, causing immediate death. From looking at the neck video, that happened, as there is no evidence of "streaming blood", as would occur if he were still alive, meaning he was dead when his throat was cut.
Also, if this had been caused by the rope, it would have happened when Saddam's heart was still pumping, and would have resulted in obvious blood loss through the carotids, which is not evident.

17. it's not unusual for a lynching to |
|
decapitate a person. I remarked to someone who knows more about this than I that there seemed to be a lot of rope for such a low ceiling, and they said that could have easily be headed him. While it seems more gruesome, it is actually less likely to cause suffering before death. Using a short rope can be an agonizing way to kill someone as the neck is not broken, but the windpipe is crushed, and the brain still has oxygen- the person struggles to breathe, and feels the pain. People who have survived hanging have reported this.

Not only the 1800s. Several of the senior Nazis' executed at Nuremberg were decapitated due to the inexperience of the army executioners.

Looks like the damage that was wrought by the rope during the hanging.

9. I'm not sure that is true. They put the scarf around his neck to prevent the rope from beheading him |
|
They initially said that even with the scarf, the rope still cut his neck.

but the folded hood he'd refused to put over his head, otherwise the hood would have been around his neck anyway.

Very easy for someone to click the link if they wanted to see it. I never even watched the hanging video FGS. No graphic warning or anything. Some people wish not to see this shit. I can read about it and imagine it all by myself, thanks.

If they cut his throat while he was alive, where's the blood? His shirt and coat are still clean. Could the skin have been torn by the force of the rope? Even that would have been a little bloody. This must have happened after he was dead.
edit: OK, I see a spot of blood on the shirt, not a lot. Must be from the rope.

18. What's more informative is the complete breakage of the neck...he felt no pain. |
|
The neck tear was most likely from the rope. I find the positioning of his head to be more informative, as it suggests a complete separation of the cervical vertebrae and a VERY quick and painless death for Saddam. From a hanging standpoint, they did it the correct way. Saddam most likely did not die from asphyxiation.

the hood is supposed to prevent that kind of damage, I suppose. Not a slit throat in my opinion.

19. Hello? With a noose the size of that one, the scarf would only |
|
have to slip a bit for the rope to cause a large gash in the neck--which was previously reported btw.
The hanging was a disaster and a travesty, but come on now... This is beating a dead horse, IMO.

33. The Saddam "drop" was badly calculated |
|
Having read various books regarding capital punishment the whole proceedure was abyssmal. Pierrepoint, probably the most efficient Official Executioner that the UK has ever had, would have been disgusted to have disfigured the body in this way. He would have been more shocked that the execution took so long. Pierrepoint's fastest execution was under 7 seconds from the condemned cell to the fall (from greeting the prisoner to pulling the lever). Pierrepoint ended as an opponent of capital punishment.
