1. Because if there's one bigotry that's acceptable
It's anti Mormon bigotry.

5. What about someone who partakes in ritual cannibalism once a week?
i.e. takes communion or mass or sacramant. Is such a person logical or rational?

What about a person who believes that God doesn't want his children to eat pigs? Is that logical or rational?

13. I'd rather not have any religious person as prez. but would be satisfied

if a religious prez. kept his religion private and not part of the presidency

14. Ah So he's allowed to have a religion so long as his religion doesn't
mean anything?

Yeah - that's not bigoted at all - don't know what I was thinking.

but what's more private than magic underwear?

In his four years as governor of Massachusetts, I never saw Romney posing in his magic pants. :scared:

2. What about religious headgear, then?
Surely, we can make a better case against Romney
than just mocking the more obscure tenets of his
religion, can't we?

3. I honestly don't care whether he wears Mormon underpants
or Fredrick's of Hollywood. What I DO care about is how much of his own religion he thinks the rest of us should be forced to follow.

That's where the line is for me, and that's why he's unacceptable.

6. Has Romney been through the temple?
You only get the permission to wear the Magic Underwear if you have been through the temple and whatever programs they require during that trek.

I have relatives that are mormon's and I have seen the Magic Underwear up close for many years. They are not pretty! ;)

9. I know one Mormon personally. Great guy, but their ultimate allegiance is
to the church. It's even taught that the church comes before the state.

17. I'm going to lock this.
With regard to religion (or the lack thereof), Democratic Underground is a diverse community which includes Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Atheists, Agnostics, and others. All are welcome here. For this reason, we expect members to make an extra effort to be sensitive to different religious beliefs, and to show respect to members who hold different religious beliefs. Members are welcome to discuss whether they agree or disagree with particular religious beliefs, but they are expected to do so in a relatively sensitive and respectful manner. As a general rule, discussions about ideas are usually permitted, but broad-brush bigoted statements about groups of people — either religious or non-religious — are not.

best,
